Hi mtown,

Lenovo is the only one who do have the the bottom casing for your Y510 and there's nowhere you can buy from. If you were already informed by Lenovo that they do not sell the part and the machine is already out of warranty then I'm afraid to say that there's really nothing more we can do for this. If you want you may contact Lenovo once again because they do an out of warranty repair. You can inquire about how much the cause may be.

Hope it helps.

Thank you for using Fixya.

Most of this can be taken apart with a screwdriver . The case is a little tricky. You will notice from the side...where the case is split, there are tabs on the inside that you need to press. I poked a small screwdriver through the vent holes to press them and get the box apart.

The hard drive is secured to the frame and this frame needs to be removed to get access to all the screws holding the hard drive to the frame. The frame may have screws holding it to the case or accessed from the front of the computer after you remove the front faceplate panel.

Replacing CD-RW/DVD Drive

I own a Presario F730US. I have had it apart many times and it is a difficult case to open. There are several ribbon cables that are easily damaged if you are not very careful. You have to pop up the speaker cover panel as there are case screws under it as well. Once inside you will see the screws that retain the optical drive. Once you remove them it will slide right out and the new one will slide right in. I can not overstate how careful you have to be. If you are not 100% sure of yourself I would recomend that you take it to a repair shop and let a qualified tech assist you. The screws you need to get to are under the keyboard. The whole laptop does not need to be disassembled to swap the drive. Once you pop the speaker bazel and the keyboard you are home free. If you need more help feel free to ask.

Disc read error

Hi P,

You have to take the case apart first, 6 screw coveres then 6 screws. Pop the top off. Get you a new laser from ebay. Take the solder blob off of the new laser when you get it. The rail to the right of the laser is retained by two holds which are held by a screw each. The arm that connects the laser to the worm gear will have to be placed on the new laser.
If your uncomfortable with replacing a laser or do not have the soldering tools to remove the shipping solder blob, you need to find a repair shop to send your Slim to for repair.
Click on "Repair Directory" at the bottom of this screen. Then on the next page, click on "Video Game Consoles" Pick a good Repair shop dedicated to repairing Playstations.

Tv lamp replacement

I just did this myself. I'm a novice but it wasn't that hard. Your choices are to purchase a complete unit including the casing from a Sony repair shop for around $250, or just replace the lamp.

I just replaced the lamp and saved $130.

I just removed the screws from the side of the casing that protect the lamp. I disconnected the contact points and then popped open the housing.

Remove the screws and the nut that attach to the lamp. Wear gloves when you handle the new lamp so you don't shorten the lifespan of the bulb.

re-attach all the screws and slide it back in.

It took me the longest to have line up the contact points when sliding it back into the TV. Make sure all the connections are snug and keep at it. Don't give up! I'll admit I was tempted!
