Question about Plumbing

1 Answer

My InSinkErator Badger1 garbage disposal has started leaking from a small hole (round, ~1/8") about 2/3 of the way up the back of the case. It's particularly messy when the disposal is running. Is this hole some type of drain or weep hole that indicates the disposal or line is not draining properly or is it some type of damage to the disposal that means it should be repaired or replaced? Thank you. Also, I'm really surprised there's no category for disposal problems. It makes it hard to post something when it can't be classified.

Your drain is probably OK. The disposal is going bad. You can temporarily repair the disposal by using plumber's epoxy putty ( found at most home centers for about 5 bucks) to seal the hole. Sand the area around the hole first, and then dust it off. Use about a golf-ball size section of putty to seal the hole. This is not a permanent fix, but it will get you by for a while. Replacing the garbage disposal will be the ultimate fix.
If after repairing the hole the sink stands full of water, then you know for sure that the drain is backed up.

I would like to know where the plug for the dishwasher drain in my new badger 1 disposal is?

Hello,
#/4 of the way to the top there is a round pipe like thing sticky out from the side of the disposal...
Take a screw driver and pop the back out of the round hole to allow the water to get into the disposal...
Also dump the blank out of the disposal before operating it.
The just hookup the dishwasher discharge hose to the round hole and your are ready to go!!!

Water leaks from two locations on my Badger 5, 1/2 hp disposal

These holes are probably due to wear, as they are at about the level of the cutter. In general, residential disposals are not repairable and once they begin to leak, they must be replaced. The Badger series is Insinkerator's budget line and probably has about a 5 year lifespan with normal use.
