Question about GE Spacemaker JVM1750 Microwave Oven

1 Answer

While changing light bulbs in micro hood/vent, the bulbs broke off. Was able to remove both bulbs, but the circuit breaker tripped. Reset breaker, replaced new bulbs, but now neither bulb works. Is there a fuse blown in hood/fan unit or any clue to what it couyld be?

Yes, all microwave funtions work as well as the light inside the microwave. Also, the fan for the vent does work, just the 2 kights do not.

Both bulbs broke at the base during removal. Turned breaker off, then used needle nose expanded inside metal part of bulb to remove both screw parts. Put new bulbs in, turned on beaker and NO lights came on.
Just wondering if a capacitor, if it has one has burned up. No snoke came from unit when original breaker popped.
Would it be safe to use, just don't turn on light switch?

Do all other functions of the microwave work as expected, just the lights are not lighting up? It probably is a blown fuse somewhere, but please provide this information first so I can help you further.

Thanks!
Tim

Hmmm, it sounds to me like the actual socket where the lights go in is damaged. I'm quite sure the vent and those lights are on the same fuse... so I doubt it is a blown fuse in there. Did the lights ever pop / explode originally, or how did they "break off"? And how did you get them out of the unit once they were broken off? Wondering if something got damaged in the process. You may just want to count your blessings in that it still works, just without a light, and leave it as is. I'd be worried that fiddling with it too much could actually do more harm than good in this situation.

    Thanks,
    Tim

Yes it is definitely safe to use, I would just use it as it, and don't turn on the light switch as you mentioned. That would be my recommendation for sure.

Also, just keep a "nose out" so to speak for any electrical burning smells, I would run it for a good 5 minutes a few times in a row and make sure it does not smell electrical inside and you are good to go.

    Thanks!

FGMV205K cover removal

Good Afternoon Friend,

I understand that you want to know how to remove the cover on your Frigidaire microwave, model# FGMV205K. There are two different covers that you are able to remove for access to two different light bulbs.

If you are trying to change the Microwave Oven Light for inside your microwave:

1)To replace light bulb, first disconnect power to your microwave oven at the circuit breaker panel or by unplugging it.

2)Remove the louver by removing the three Hood Louver Screws.

3)Push in the upper tabs and pull the louver away from your appliance.

4)Remove the light bulb and replace with a new 20 watt light bulb. DO NOT USE BULB LARGER THAN 20 WATTS.

5)Close the Oven Light Cover by carefully pushing into place. Push the louver back into place (engaging both the bottom and top tabs) and change to hood Louver Screws.

If you are trying to change the light bulbs underneath your Microwave:

1)To replace light bulbs, first disconnect power to your microwave oven at the circuit breaker panel or by unplugging it.

2)To open Light Cover, remove the screw on the light cover.

3)Replace the light bulbs with new 20 watt light bulbs. DO NOT USE BULBS LARGER THAN 20 WATTS.

4)Close the Light Cover and secure with screw removed at step 2.

If further troubleshooting is needed, I ask that you please let me know the error codes displayed on your appliance. Hope this is helpful.

      -Best Regards-
      WP

Went to warm up a food item and after 3 seconds the microwave shut off like the circuit breaker tripped. time face went blank, light inside does not light up and stove top lights do not light. circuit...

You have a fuse behind the screen panel. You have screws inside the microwave holding the panel. you have 1-2 at the bottom. You may also have to remove the vent. It has 2-3 screws which will be inside the vent. These can be removed from the front. Once these are removed the panel will pop off and you will see the fuse The fuse can be bought at a radio shack. BE SURE TO UNPLUG THE MICROWAVE! Good Luck

When I was unscrewing a burnt out hood lamp on

I would not use the lamps. Sounds like there is a shortage in the wiring for the lamps. They lamps should run together, and if one of the sockets have a short or burned wire it will not let it complete the circuit. This could be a fire hazard, so I would replace the whole microwave. It would be more trouble to tear it apart and find the exact problem than it's worth.

The circuit breaker to the micro wave was tripped and when reset the microwave did not work it just hums also the lights and fan does not work. What's up with that?

the hi voltage transformer is still operating, but the rest is dead, you could remove outer cover and see if there are 2 fuses, most only have 1 fuse, sounds like new microwave time

The vent fan and surface light do not work

1. Check your circuit breaker for this m/w. Reset it.
2. Microwaves usually have 20A fuse inside. It could be broken.

GE Microwave Surface Lights

The control circuits for the cooktop lights and the hood fan are spearate. The problem is indeed with the control unit. It's usually caused by either the filaments shorting when the lamp blows or by removing or installing the bulbs while the oven is still plugged into the power line. We regularly repair these nationwide for $32.50.
