Question about Car Audio & Video

1 Answer

Purchased Honda 6 CD changer thru eBay. Called Hoda for "unlock" code. Radio works great, but, it will not eject the CD's or play the Cd's already in the unit!

It sounds like it's trying to eject, but, to no avail. Get ERR and then goes back to radio! Light in the middle of unit blinks while trying to eject. This in an in-dash model 6 CD changer!

The radio is great! Would it be worth paying for repair? I only have $44 into it! Any suggestions as where to send? I live in WA! Thanks, for your help!! David

Couldn't a local audio shop do the repair? I have seen while searching the web a place back east that does it for about $120 not including shipping!

When you hit the eject button does it look like it's attempting to eject them? Do you hear things inside moving around / spinning like it's trying? Do you have the model number of the unit you are referring to? There are many different disc changers Honda makes.

Thanks
Tim

Yikes! That's no good at all. I think this unit's cd mechanism has failed, which is probably why they were selling it on ebay in the first place. Do you have the link for the ebay auction that you purchased it from? You should be covered by buyer protection through paypal / ebay and can get a full refund on this unit. If you have the link / item # from ebay please let me have it and I will look at the auction to confirm. If it doesn't even play the discs that are stuck in there then that is a very bad sign. If you don't have that info, is this the unit you are referring to? :

No problems whatsoever sir! :) I can definitely recommend someone in your area if you'd like, but the repair cost will be prohibitive. It will be cheaper to just replace the unit again from somewhere like ebay. So the way you talk, I assume it was purchased quite some time ago off of ebay? Because otherwise you can get the $44 right back and get a new one and be out virtually $0....

If you'd like me to recommend someone in your area please let me know your zip code. The best bet actually would be a Honda authorized dealer, which as you know, will probably be costly. I definitely want to save you as much $ as possible here.

    Thanks
    Tim

    I would check out:

    Performance Car Audio
    821 Yakima Valley Highway, Sunnyside, WA‎ - (509) 837-5600

    Pollo's Car Audio105 East Toppenish Avenue, Toppenish, WA‎ - (509) 865-8833

But honestly I would look into just replacing the unit, get a quote / estimate from these people before you try to do anything. And still better yet is any official Honda Dealer, but they will just tell you to replace it as well, the folks listed above could probably actually repair it.

    Thanks so much

About every 2 months our 6-disc CD changer breaks down and we have to have the whole radio replaced they said it comes from playing burned cds in it but it has even broken down with store bought ones. So...

I had the same problem i just decided to pull the whole thing out and get a new radio and single disc cd changer put in and so far it works fine.

Car 6 cd changer

In both of these cases, the in-dash CD changer will probably need to be repaired or replaced due to internal mechanical damage.

Direct replacements can be purchased from the dealer - you could also replace with an aftermarket radio or a used radio from a junkyard, eBay, etc.(a reputable junkyard or eBay seller will give you a refund/replacement if the unit is DOA - look for them to advertise this fact).

If you want to have your radio repaired, there are repair shops who specialize in factory stereo equipment, such as http://www.sound-repair.com/, http://www.carradiorepairs.com/, and http://www.carstereohelp.com/, among others. I cannot vouch for any of those sites as I haven't personally dealt with them, but they look knowledgeable and professional in my opinion, and their advertised prices are much lower than a replacement from a dealer would be.

As far as radio removal - Pattyp54, if you give me year/make/model of your car I can give you instructions.

Guest with the 2004 Visteon changer - you'll need Ford radio removal tools (available at Wal-Mart and auto parts stores in the car stereo section, approximately $5). They are u-shaped with slight tapers on the ends. Insert these into the holes on the ends of the radio face (you'll want them angled as much as possible with the pin ends going outward towards the dash). Once they are inserted about 1/2-3/4" or so, pull the u-ends outward and pull the radio toward you - it may take some jiggling but should release.
