Question about Kenmore 67632 Electric Dryer

1 Answer

I have an old kenmore model 002586 dryer that just stopped and won't start. I think it may be a thermal fuse, but am not sure exactly where it is located. Would you know?

Unplug the dryer.
Remove the rear panel of the dryer.
Look on the left side of the main exhaust vent. The fuse is about 1 and 1/2 inches long by 1/2 inch wide and white in color.
2 wires attached.

Kenmore dryer won't start

If thermal fuse is bad, most dryers will not run. If it is bad, dryer has overheated for some reason. Check venting to be sure it is clear and be sure heating element has not grounded out.

Our 8 year old kenmore dryer won't do anything when you press the start button. We don't hear even a hum. It worked one day and then just wouldn't start the next day. We checked the fuse box...

Here is a good link for basic troubleshooting... But 10 to one the culprit is a thermal fuse or thermal cut off.... they are usually pretty cheap and easy to replace....

http://www.partselect.com/dryer+dryer-wont-start+repair.htm

One final note on these: if you find your thermal fuse\cut off (or element) open, before replacing it, be sure to check the airflow out your dryer's vent system. Even though these devices do 'wear out' with age, poor airflow's the #1 cause of failure of these devices, and if your vent's partially clogged, a new thermal won't last very long, but will do its job again, and leave you 'cold' (a new element won't last long if the vent's clogged, either).

Thermal Fuse

Item #2986 (OEM Part)
$10.70

Thermal fuse. If the dryer overheats, this device stops the flow of electricity to the heat source and/or the entire dryer. It is located on the blower housing and cannot be reset. The most common cause for overheating is a vent tube clogged with lint, a birds nest or other debris.

Did you resolve the issue with the Kenmore Elite H3 Dreyer of just beeping and not turning on? I can be reached at the email below - Thanks - It lights up and just a beep and a clickng noise when you hit...

There's a thermal fuse located on the blower housing that blows when the vents and ducts are clogged or when the thermistor, also on the blower housing, fails. This thermal fuse is wired in series with the motor and if blown, power to the motor is terminated causing it no to run. The motor activates the heating circuit through the motor centrifugal switch only when the motor runs. No dryer function works then when the motor cannot run.

Access then bypass the thermal fuse and if the dryer runs, the thermal fuse is indeed blown. Make sure the vents and ducts are clear then replace the thermal fuse including the thermistor to address the problem. Do not use the dryer with the thermal fuse blown due to fire hazards. Note: The part numbers mentioned in the link above may not be the right one for you dryer. Indicate the exact model number of the dryer should you need the right part numbers.

Have a Kenmore Model 80 Electric home clothes dryer and it won't start and light won't turn on. It is about 8yrs old. Checked breaker and still no power. Is it likely thermal fuse? If yes, where/what is...

Yes that would definitely be a thermal fuse problem. Take the rear panel off your dryer and look down at the lower left where the blower housing assembly is there will be a white rectangle looking thermostat with 2 blue wires going to it that is your thermal fuse. Unplug the 2 blue wires and then you will have to remove the screw which will be a phillips head or 1/4 bolt then the thermal fuse will slide out you need the model number off the dryer which is located on the top left of the dryer behind the door take that to your local appliance parts store which they carry that in stock and just replace using the same steps above.

Kenmore dryer model 64602 wont turn on???

Check the thermal fuse on the rear of the dryer.
Remove the rear panel. The thermal fuse is 1 and 1/2 inches long by 1/2 inch wide. White in color and located just left of the dryer exhaust vent. 2 purple wires. Jump the wires together and start the dryer. If it runs, replace the thermal fuse.
