Question about Washing Machines

Open Question

My Hotpoint Aquarius Washing Machine, has stopped spinning! I'd left the washing going whilst I was out, and when I got home, noticed that all the washing was still wet, I tried emptying it, and moving the drum by hand, and it wouldn't move, with a little force (maybe foolishly?) I've got the drum to move, but it seems to be moving without the slight resistance that was present when it was working correctly? I've looked on various websites, and there seems to be mention of the belt having come off, and the wearing down of 'carbon brushes'? If this is an easy thing to mend, then I'd be most grateful to avoid any expensive repair bills?

SOURCE: Hotpoint Aquarius WMA54 very noisy during spin

Hi, if your H/P is noisy on the spin cycle, just open the door and turn the drum a few times. If you feel some play, or kind of loud huming noise, then it is the bearings, very, very common on H/P WMA's.

SOURCE: 'test' displayed on washing machine

After pressing different buttons and waiting 10 to 15 seconds after turning the power off, I have finally found the solution.
When you have pressed the "Start/Cancel" button to start your wash programme the LCD shows "test".
You must then press the "Start/Cancel" button which will give you the normal temperature and washing time and then importantly you must depress both the "Start/Cancel" button with the "On/Off" button which will give you a different LCD message and then it will automatically resets itself.

ALL THE BEST!

Does not spin and rinse properly

Sounds like motor is not coming up to spin speed. May be overheating, in which case you would need a new motor.

Hi, Does the drum turn during the wash cycle? When it comes to the spin cycle does it go through to the end without the drum turning? It sounds like it could be the motor needs new carbon brushes. Regards, Tom.
