Streaking caused by worn developer rollers is a common problem with these drum units. Careful visual inspection of the developer roller is important to producing a quality product.

These rollers usually have a lot of wear and maybe unusable for a second cycle.

Hope helps.

My brother MFC 8500 is receiving alright but everything I send out has a big black streak going down the right side of the page. Confirmation page also has big black streak.

Let me see if I got this right.

The received fax is clean but when you send one out it has a black streak on it.
Cool! So far so good.
Makes sense because for sending, the fax scans the original document and parts of the scanning area could be dirty and so on. Therefore a black streak may appear.
The same black streak would also appear when you make a copy, because the original document must also be scanned.
Logical!

However for receiving faxes, the machine uses the internal memory and the print engine only, and the same applies to printing the transaction report, which comes from inside via the print engine.
The scanner has no rol in either situation.

Now I'm lost!

When I fax out the receiver gets a black streak down the side of the page I faxed????

clean the glass underneath the control panel. could have white out or something on it. however, if its a bunch of streaks, it could be your CIS, or contact image sensor, is bad. will need to be replaced by a tech.

We are getting streaks on scan and faxes but not on items we just use for regular copying. Where do you think the problem lies?

Clean all the glass surface you see. Newer copiers use a small glass strip that the original scans across. All it takes is alittle white out or ink spot on the glass and you get the streaks.

I have a black streak all on one side when i copy ?

If it is just when you copy and not when you print then it is a cleaning issue. Toner cartridge would cause the line to appear on copies, printouts and faxes. There is a piece of glass inside the auto document feeder that is probably dirty. Open up the document feeder as if you were clearing an original document jam. Look for a piece of glass inside the ADF, it will run the length of the document feeder. There is probably some dirt or another popular problem is white out. Clean off the glass with glass cleaner or alcohol and it should fix the problem.

The receiver states that our faxes that we send are unreadable down the right side of the paper--white or dark streak. The faxes we receive are ok

The glass scanner window (narrow strip of glass) needs cleaning. One "spot" of dirt will appear as a streak on the receiving end.
If you "copy" a document you can check the streak and see how effective your cleaning is.

WHITE STREAK

We had the same thing, and this may not be the case with your fax, but it's worth checking into.

I opened up the fax to take a look and it turned out that someone had sent a fax with WET WHITE OUT on the paper. It got in the fax (grrr!) so there was one stripe where you couldn't read anything since the scanner was blocked. Some windex and a paper towel fixed the problem here.

Drum has 13% life left; white paper w streak in middle when you copy

Try taking out the cartidge and given it a light shake. If the white streak moves or changes then you are out of toner.

As for sending faxes, do you get an error message an any kind? Does it try to dial?

Blank Streaks

streaks are caused either by the toner, drum, lamp or fuser.

If you make a copy and it does not show a streak then it was done by the person sending the fax. BUT, check this,

open door and take out toner cartridge. look for a thin glass that is on the bottom of the machine and wipe it. Toner spills will cause a black streak.
