Question about ButtKicker BKA1000-4A Amplifier

Open Question

The BKA1000 is not currently available. What would be a good alternate product solution for this amp? It needs to power four buttkicker LFEs with 500W into a 4 Ohm load. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

SOURCE: Keeps blowing the fuse inside the unit.

When a fuse blows suspect an overload in either the power supply or main amp stage. The most likely cause is some part acting like a piece of wire instead of doing it's job. In the power supply it could be the transformer, voltage regulator, or the rectifier or any diode. In the amp section any semi-conductor on the heat sink.
Check first for burnt or damaged parts. If you have a multimeter any transistor or diode will quickly show up. For when you have the meter on the ohms setting and touch the terminals with the probes, it will show as if you had touched the probes together.

I took my 1000 watt amp and kit out of my old truck and put it in in my new ride. It worked just fine at first then the subs started going out for hours even days but amp was still powered on then i hooked...


You may need to run a larger wire to the amp or upgrade your alternater to get enough voltage to the amp. double check all of you wire connections going to the battery and from the alternator also. Clean all terminals and maybe even beef up the wires from the alternator to your battery. Your smaller amp works due to it needing less current to work, your big amp can't even power up with the lack of available current.

My amp and system works fine with the car on acc but when the car is running , the amp started smoking and it goes into protect mode


Your amp is trying to make up for the lack of available voltage that is being used by your car and to a maintain output it will then start to draw more current to accomodate the drop. The formula that shows the proportions of Voltage (Electricity) and Amperage (Intensity) to Watts (Power). It looks like this P=IxE So if your amp is 1400watts and it's getting 14 volts it will take 100 amps to power it (given the amp is 100% efficient, which no amps are) so when you turn on your AC that puts a load on your motor and alternator too for the fan and the compressor slows down your alternator making the voltage drop down to 10 volts with everything full blast. That means you amp is now pulling 140 amps of current to make up for the voltage drop, Your wire that is going to the amp is probably getting pretty warm at that time also unless you have 4 ga or larger. So when the voltage gets too low the amp will turn off and go into protect mode to keep the current in the rails from getting the amp so hot it will eventually cook the components inside of it. You will be looking for a higher output alternator just like everyone else who has high powered amps.

Your Gamer 2 Amp turns on whenever an audio signal is present on the input. The amp can have trouble tuning on if the output of the source (computer sound card, etc.) has been turned down. This can happen easily if you use amplified speakers - if you turn the sound card's volume control down - and then increase the volume at the amplified speaker - the resulting sound is the same; even though the signal has been lowered. The problem is that the output from the sound card isn't sufficient to turn on the Gamer 2 Amp.

Try turning down the external speaker volume, then bump up the sound card volume. You'll probably need to adjust the other inputs individually (Wave, Mic, CD, etc) so that none is too loud or soft. Once the input values have been set, gradually increase the output of the sound card in the control panel application etc. while decreasing the volume on the amplified speaker to maintain a comfortable level. Eventually, you'll find the correct volume level on the sound card output that will wake up the Gamer 2 Amp.

Just hooked up fosgate bd1500.1 to 2 JBL gto series 15" subwoofer


Your current alternator is strained and cannot give the required current draw of your amp. Most aftermarket amps have exterior fuses. Try adding these up for a round-about current draw number. I would bet that your amp is killing the availible power from the electrical charging system of your car. You could always go up to a higher fuse, (I run a 200 amp breaker) bu this will only make your stereo work and your alternator fail prematurely. Try searching ebay or go to ohio generator for a stronger output alternator.

Control the volume on each of the 12 bass shakers i plan to install


Please note that you can't simply wire them together in series or parallel. Connecting any more than 2 would likely cause damage to your amplifier. (depending on the impedance of the bass shaker 4 ohms, 8 ohms, etc.)

The Buttkicker brand recommends the following configuration for four buttkickers into one amp: Click here

As you can see, you need a combination of parallel and series connections to make sure the amp is "seeing" the correct load. I'd recommend purchasing three dedicated subwoofer amps (there are some good inexpensive ones at http://www.parts-express.com.

This will give you volume control over each set of four shakers at the amp itself. If you need control at each shaker, the only solution I know if is to use an impedance matching volume control.
