Hi,
This "Crackling" Problem is common with the Cerwin Vega VE-28S Subwoofer. If your subwoofer is out of warranty, and you know how to solder, you can fix the problem by replacing a few resistors, and transistors inside the amplifier. Get the parts on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/250756306868/

I would check the solder connections in solder joint you can find. Get a tuning kit at an electronics store. This will have 3 all plastic tools one of which is a flat headed screw driver used to turn pots in televisions while they are turned on. That way you won't get shocked or cause a short and ruin something. Touch and wiggle every wire where it is soldered. If that doesn't work you have a problem that should be looked at by a pro.

NHT SubOne makes hum when the standby mode is activating and when playing music there are pops when the volume gets loud.

Hums are generally caused by electrolytic capacitors that have gone. You should replace any large ones in the power supply section of the unit.

I have a cerwin vega ve 28s sub and noticed static sound coming out even when no music was playing. The next day sub went into standby in the middle of a song. If I turn it off for a couple hours it works...

First, disconnect it and let it run with no input. Problem here is that it probably has an auto-turnoff and will shut off. My bet is that either your connection wiring is faulty and/or your amp is sending down either RF or DC signals. I would get it close to the amp with another connection cable and check... Good Luck !

Because my rear speakers are popping and crackling during DTS output, I believe my settings of bass or treble might be overloading my speakers... should I set the rear speakers to "flat"? should...

Cracks and pops are dangerous. Can you tell if they might be circuit overloads or maybe digital decoding errors?

Are you routing bass to small speakers. THAT would definitely have audible problems. Define all of your speakers Large vs Small based on their bass-handling capacity.

ONLY DTS? Probably NOT the speakers or amps. How many sources are involved? Could be with the source or cabling.

Does it happen at low volumes, too? Then it would probably be digital in origin.

Do the indicators various digital surround mode indicators flicker or turn off when the pops appear?

As for the rest of your questions, I'd set everything at flat and start all over. If you're maxxing out any settings, something is wrong.

Crackles and pops, even in standby mode

Does it only pop and crack when its connected to your amp or receiver ? i have the same thing with my sub [its not cerwin vega] but when i turn my amp off the sub doesnt pop anymore so i think my amp is the problem not the sub , yours might be the same problem .

Crackling

Yeah, I've had two of these go out on me in exactly that failure mode. The first time, C-V bounced me around to two repair shops (a three-month process) before telling me to send it to them in Florida. This time, I went directly back to C-V with it, and they've had it two months now, and every time I call for a status update, I'm told "We'll let you know," or "We're working on the paperwork." Their service and support staff are not helpful - friendly, but not helpful - and the failure rate I've experienced is absolutely unforgivable.

So, my best solution I can give you is send it back for a warranty adjustment, and then sell it. As soon as mine comes back this 2nd time, it's going on the market, and I'm going out to buy a Sony.

Cerwin Vega ve-28s subwoofer and new Cervin Vega 2-way satellites

I bought my VE-28s and it did exactly that crackled, cerwin replaced part in amp but few months later problem persisted. they then replaced entire amp assembly and its been fine. i really push it to and its been fine. to test it, unplug the connection from amp/ reciever and see if it persists. if so its the sub, if not its the amp/ reciever. dont dump it, these subs really crank and can put out some deep loud bass.
