Question about Amana ABB2224DEW / ABB2224DEQ / ABB2224DEB Bottom Freezer Refrigerator

1 Answer

Drain in freezer keeps getting plugged up and bottom of freezer has big, frozen sheet of ice. Have had repairman out twice. I'd like to know if I could fix it myself. Yesterday, I took the freezer door off, slid food trays out, and chipped off ice, but couldn't find drain hole. Do I need to take the back off? The repairman melted the drain hole ice with a blow dryer and then sucked guck out with a turkey baster. I could do that too if I could find the drain! Thank you. Candace Miller

Tfx25ppbb. Water leaks into bottom of freezer when refilling ice tray in automatic ice maker. Ice still gets made but water leaks to the bottom of freezer. When enough freezes, it leaks out the door

It's probably not the ice-maker. It has a plugged drain. This is located in the back wall of the freezer near the bottom. remove the evaporator cover...(the back wall of the freezer). Below the coils is a trough with a hole in it where the defrost water drains. This is probably frozen over.
Pour some hot water in to trough until you see drain hole. Keep pouring until water runs thru drain. May have to shut down ref to get it to defrost.

What causes ice build-up on the floor of the ice-maker/freezer compartment.

Hello, My name is Peter. I am a former Sears Home Services Tech.

You have a frozen/blocked drain at the back bottom of your freezer. This is a common problem that happens over time. I assume you have a side by side? I have found pieces of corn... The normal repair is to take the lower back freezer wall off, using hot water or a steamer defrost the drain hole, then install a hot wire from the defrost heater into the drain hole. That's if I were there.
Your cooling coil also has a heater. Every 8-10 hours your freezer will shut down for about 10 minutes to defrost. When it defrost the condensate (water) drips down to the drain. If the drain is frozen or plugged the water accumulates in the bottom of your freezer section. One water droplet will hang up in the drain and then another until the drain is frozen.
Here is what YOU DO. Using a hair dryer melt the ice on the bottom of your freezer. NO NOT USE A Hammer or anything like that. You will crack the liner and then have some serious problems.
Use a plastic spatula to help lift the sheets of ice out. Put the hair dryer toward the bottom back where the drain is located. Continue to melt this ice until you see the drain hole. Once found, pore warm water into the back tray. Try to collect this water and repeat the process until the water goes down the drain.

If you have any questions call me 443-306-1362. I will expect a Christmas card.

Ice in the bottom of the freezer

Check the door gasket for a leak. Air entering past the gasket will form ice.

My bottom drawer freezer is accumulating a sheet of ice

Your defrost drain line is clogged or frozen so the defrosted water is leaking into the freezer compartment and freezing into a ice layer in the next cooling cycle. Get your defrost drain line unclogged.

My Frigidarie model #: FRS26ZGH is freezing water on the bottom of the freezer and leaking out onto the floor. I understand that the drain plug may be frozen. However, I do not see a drain plug or know...

The drain trough is at the bottom and way way back on the freezer side. After you get rid of the ice you need to get a flashlight and look way in back and at the very bottom of the freezer. You should be able to see the drain trough. It will be frozen, you need to get rid of the ice and then clean out the drain tube.A hair dryer might work to melt the ice but be very carful not to melt anything on the refrigereator. Then you can put hot water in the trough to be sure that the drain line is clear. Hope this helps.

I have a Kenmore Coldspot Model #69207990 and have the same problem. Water from the freezer drains into the refridgerator onto the shelves and sheets of ice form. A repairman pointed out that the tube leading down from the freezer onto the drain pan was frozen. By pouring hot water down the tube, he reopened this drain line. Problem solved for six months and the drain line froze again. My question is how to stop this drain line from freezing up again.

There is a large sheet of ice accumulating on the bottom of the freezer. The ice maker is in the off .

Your defrost drain hole is frozen over. Turn the fridge off. Remove the lower bin. Take a hammer and carefully break the ice sheet to remove it. Use a hair dryer to defrost the drain line in the rear of the freezer just below the back panel. The drain line is up on the back inside the drain pan,not under the ice you will be breaking in the bottom.
