Question about ASUS DRW 24B1ST Disk drive DVD RW ( R DL) DVDRAM 24x24x12x Serial ATA internal 525" Burner

Open Question

Trying to install a new ASUS DRW 24B1ST CD\DVD player purchased as an OEM device at Frys - it will not install. Device Manager says "A driver (service) for this device has been disabled. An alternate driver may be providing this information, (Code 32).” The driver listed in the Device Manager that is listed as disabled I believe is the correct one coming with a new Windows 7 Home Premium install, and is found at C:\Windows\system32\-DRIVERS\cdrom.sys. There was another cdrom driver previously installed when I installed Windows 7 Home Premium and used the start up disk to load some CyberLink software for that CD/DVD/Blu-ray r/w (blu-ray reader only) player on 1/10 for a ? brand OEM blu ray reader that I only used for cd and dvd read/write, not needing the blu laser yet. It quit working claiming I believe the same thing by Device Manager, but don't have that info now. I deleted that driver, found at above C:\…DRIVERS\CLBStor.sys the other day thinking it might be causing problems. The blu ray is sitting in my machine, but not connected to the board or power supply. Both use ATA connectors. -> more to follow

SOURCE: WINDOWS SEVEN all of

Try each of these in this order:

  1. Attempt to update the drivers/firmware. A Windows update may have had a compatibility issue. Right Click Computer -> Manage -> Sytem Tools -> Device Manager -> Click the "+" icon onCD/DVD Drives, choose the drive, Right-Click on it -> Update Drivers. If Windows is unable to find an updated driver or firmware go here.
  2. If the Windows isn't seeing them, that means data has become corrupted and they aren't there. These are Plug-N-Play devices so the basic drivers should show up automatically if the device itself can be seen. When you say that it can't see the drivers are you really meaning that it can't see the devices?
  3. Uninstall the drivers if they are there (again, if they are there, Windows is seeing them). Right Click Computer -> Manage -> Sytem Tools -> Device Manager -> Click the "+" icon on CD/DVD Drives, choose the drive, Right-lick on it -> Uninstall. Repeat for the second drive and for wherever the "crosslink" is located. Then go to step 4...
  4. Power off you PC. Disconnect the power cable from the PC. Open up you computer case, make sure to use latex or neoprene gloves to avoid accidental static discharge. Disconnect both the SATA data cable and the SATA power supply cable from each device. Reconnect the main power cable to to the PC itself. Plug the PC back in turn it on. Ignore any messages about devices being missing if there are any. Wait for the computer to boot completely and shut it down again. When it is completely powered off, again disconnect the main power cable to the PC. Reconnect the SATA data and SATA power supply cables. Close up the PC. Reconnect the main power cable to the PC and turn it on.
  5. Upon booting up, Windows should automatically detect all new devices and automatically install the generic drivers. When it's done doing that and it tells you that the devices are ready for use, go back to step one and an update the firmware directly from the ASUS link I provided.

Asus DRW-241st stopped recognizing any DVD's though it still reads CD's. Other then that it seems to be running just fine.

Good day sir, Try to clean it with a CD lens cleaner if problem persist.I recommend replacing your optical disk drive or use it as a slave for reading CD's so that your new ODD will last long. in my opinion most DVDRAM, player etc. can read most formats except Bluray disc. using the device from reading CD,VCD and DVD lessen's the device life span.
sometimes if we rarely use the ODD its already not working.

try reinstalling your operating system ( try format your cd or just repair it). The system will automatically detect the driver for your drive but if it was not listed in the bios try checking the cables attached to your drive.. or still if not.. the drive may be damaged.
