My laptop lately has an unusual symptom since 3 days, on pressing the power button, it sometimes boots, while sometimes it does not get started. and when i plug on the charger for a while (5-10 minutes) it turns on ...but then the battery status is ok!! can you help me...

1. Take the battery out of the laptop & try to turn on the laptop using power adapter only. If the computer turns on, then the battery is defective & needs to be replaced.
2. Make sure the power adapter is not defective. Test the output voltage of the power adapter using a voltmeter. Compare the voltmeter reading to the nominal value written on the adapter or the laptop.
3. Make sure the DC jack is not loose or broken. A loose DC jack will need to be re-soldered. A broken one will need to be replaced.
4. If you have another processor which is compatible with your laptop's model, try swapping processors & test to see if the laptop will work.
5. The power button could be bad.
6. The motherboard could be defective & needs to be replaced.

My computer is not working....i am stuck in windows system32 drivers disk.sys when i try the safe mode...and the installation stops and just turn into black... can anyone help me ragarding this problem?...

    I'm not sure if this will work, but worth a try. It appears that your power up settings have got messed up somehow.

    Put it all back together, batteries and charger. It will try to boot after a fashion. Just give it a couple of minutes to try and do what it should. If it still hasn't come on properly, press and keep pressed the on/off button until the laptop turns off (about 5 seconds). Leave it a couple of minutes then try and turn it on again normally.

    After this, I'd need to be able to look at what's happening to help any more.

    This morning I tried turning my laptop on and it started fine, it went to the Dell Logo screen, but then it continued on and went to a black page with an error on it. Everything the previous day had gone...


    Start and let it boot again and press F8 immediatly and use SAFE MODE to boot,
    let the Desktop come up,
    once stable shut down and wait for 3 - 4 mins
    restart

    My mother owns an Acer Aspire 5335-2238 laptop. It's not very old and one day it suddenly just died and restarted on its own. Then it would continually restart, sometimes booting all the way to the desktop...


    It's a good description of the fault. Thanks for that. If the power supply is being used it could be that which is faulting. Generic supplys (not branded) are quite cheap. However it could be any number of internals that are faulting, especially if does not give a single beep after boot, which indicates that all the hardware is OK. Was it ever cleaned out. Laptops get dust problems same as PC's and a detected overheat or fan failure could give this result.
    An unusual one can be if it's connected to the power supply at the wall through a junction box fitting. These are notorious for faulting. Check all the connections thoroughly.

    Reseat the harddrive (take out the screw and slide it in and out)

    You can run diagnostics, during startup (just after Dell logo) press F12,then select Boot to Utility partition, or Diagnostic partition.

    It may reveal you issue

    Has there been a power surge meanwhile? If so, try unplugging the power cord, press the power button, reconnect power and try booting. Sometimes works.
