Problem could be in the jungle IC - affecting the line drive stage somewhat. I would check all components around this IC as well as replacing the chip since they may have changed their characteristics (dropped value, changed value, leaky etc) and resoldering any suspect joints.

Check the vertical output IC and its associated components for leakage/shorts as well as jungle IC. It is more likely to be a voltage rail problem rather than a 'chip', but check to be sure, and only replace ICs which are PROVEN to have zero volts or a short on one or more of their pins.

TV has a great picture but wont "hold it". Keeps going to a single flat horizontal line across the middle of the screen. Tapping on side of TV used to bring it back but now, nothing. Just a line.

Vertical scan output section circuit fault. Absence of vertical scan causes the single horizontal line on screen. Horizontal scan output section is OK. Contact any service technician to troubleshoot the vertical scan output section circuit. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. My RCA tv picture is jumping

Vertical jumping may have a vertical hold issue, horizontal may have a horizontal hold issue. Most older tv sets will have some knobs or adjustable screws for vertical and horizontal hold. Turn your set on and check for these knobs on the back of your set and adjust until your picture is in as well as you can get it

depends on age of set and cost of boards---do some research with Google and the model number "parts" "boards" etc and by the way in these sets it can also be a power supply issue etc---almost but not quite anything.

27 inch Zenith TV Vertical too big

If you are using a DTV coverter box, you may have changed the aspect ratio with your remote control. look for a button marked "aspect" or "picture size" use that to change size.
If you have a cable box, you may have a similar button.
Or you may find a picture size adjustment on your TV remote.
If you do not have "aspect" button on your remote try going to set up menu and look for picture size.
Older TVs used to have a vertical size adjustment at the back. look in the manual.
If none of the above, you have a biiger problem with the TV internal parts needing attention

VS 5001R sounds like its gonna turn on but doesnt

This chassis model line had issues with the vertical output IC shorting causing shut down.
It also had issues with intermittent solder connections in the Horizontal Circuit. I would not try to fix it your self unless you are very familiar with Projection circuitry and electronics background.
Hope this helps,

My experiance is to not put money into a TV that is over ten years old. TVs stress out their electronic components worse than almost any other electronic product. After 10 years, there are so many parts that are ready to fail that your are probably wasting your money trying to get any more life out of it.

Picture has a horizontal row

this symptom is caused by a trouble in the integrated circuit of in the vertical oscillator circuit. try to look if your tv has a vertical hold control at the back or inside, if it does not have, u have a problem in the vertical oscillator circuit. by the way, its not the horizontal that u should concentrate into, its the vertical. coz this is a vertical sync problem.
