Question about Televison & Video

Open Question

Mr. Brammer, Our church has the Panasonic PT-Ax100u projector also and I have done the lubrication of the shaft already and the projector still shuts off. I would like to replace the iris. You said you took pictures when you changed your iris. I was wondering if you could send me the pictures you took and also was there any adjustments involved after you replaced the iris or did everything work fine when you were finished? You said you got into the unit again, did you have problems with the iris again or was it something else? We are a small church and don't have the money to replace the projector any help you could provide would be deeply appreciated. Thank You. Mark Lapre

SOURCE: Read replace lamp then afew weeks later heard pop noise and now black screen

Two things in your TV can make that popping sound. One is the bulb of course and the other is a capacitor. Have you pulled out the bulb to inspect it? My guess is that you have broken glass in the cooling fan, which is why there is a grinding sound. Most bulbs tend to contain the glass from getting everywhere as it's only the filament inside that pops creating little diamond looking pieces inside the lens. If a surge was strong enough or if the bulb was poorly manufactured, the whole unit can explode inside spraying glass everywhere.

If the bulb looks fine, the pop must've been a capacitor on one of your circuit boards resulting in no display. Since the TV still powers on, your power supply and it's fuse appear to be fine. Check the bulb first and go from there.

SOURCE: Samsung HLP6163W Problem- TV keeps turning off!

Well, I have had the same exact problem and since my hlp6163w is still under warranty, I had a technician come out to repair it. And...the winner is a bad ballast. The Ballast has also affected the bulb. So, the answer is you need to change the Ballast and the lamp to get the problem resolved. A faulty Ballast will always destroy a a lamp. Sorry for the bad news as this will cost you a total of $400.00 to replace. It sounds like there is a defect in the ballasts that were made for this particular set and a recall should be made. Hope this helps!
