Question about Rowenta Irons

1 Answer

I purchased a rowenta 1600w effective iron about 3 months ago and now everytime I iron after I plug it in the light for steam won't come on and if it does it doesn't even stay on steam for me to finish a blouse. I also get water that comes out from the holes and then it puts a brown spot on my blouse. I use distilled water and also empty it after every use. It is very frustrating and I'm ready to get a new iron . Please help me thank you

Possible that there is corrosion inside the steamer unit . The best is to keep filling and puttingthe set on till the dirt ceases to come over.
It can be due to even some foreign particles that is lodged in and making is combine with steam to produce the dirt colour.
If you can use a flexible bowden to clean into the holes just to see if there is any block it will be useful.

The rust spot are probably caused by iron in your tap water. I would suggest you put a solution of half vinegar and half water into the water chamber and leave in the iron overnight.

Then switch it on to steam and holding the iron over the sink or over an old towel, the dirt (residue) comes out of the holes on the soleplate. Sometimes if the iron is badly scaled you might need to repeat the descaling.

Once complete, fill again with clean water and steam away, to flush any of the remaining vinegar out of the iron.

Depending on how often you use your iron and how much iron is in your water, you might consider performing this flush process every 2 or 3 months. It will help extend the life of your iron.

Another option is to use distilled water in your iron. Distilled water has all the minerals removed.

Good Luck!

Brown gunge and white deposits keep coming out of the steam holes on the sole plate. We have tried de-scaling but it has had no effect. This iron has had very little use since we bought it about 18 months...

Try filling full-strength white vinegar instead of water. Then allow to steam out on scrap cloth. The white deposits are likely to be calcium. The brown gunge may be rust. When the deposits are minimized, use only distilled or bottled water from then on.
