The Toshiba recovery disks are for the Vista Home operating system. I also tried to use these disks to restore it to the "factory out of box state" without success. Please help.

It is not the hard drive. I can use my Dell cd's to reformat drive and load Windows XP SP2. However, I can't get all of the correct drivers and install in the correct order for XP. It won't even connect to the net using a direct ethernet connection.

When using the recovery cd's for "Out of the Box" restoration I get error message 10-FC12-0017

  • lchristia801 Sep 09, 2010

The operating system for this Toshiba is Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit

I have never tried to reformat or reinstall on this laptop. I've reformatted, reinstalled operating systems on many computers and this one has me stumped. In the process of reformatting the HD it takes about 15-20 hours and it craps out in the last hour. That error message is 20-fffe-0017. So, I tried to reinstall to factory settings and the error message popped up near the end of installing drivers/etc from disk 2. That error message is 10-FC12-0017.

    Hi lchristia801.

I'm sorry for the previous posting.

I have checked all the information online.

Let me first explain you about the issue.

Based on the information you have provided, it seems that the issue might be due to the Hard Drive in the Computer.

The error might be occurring due to any bad sectors on the Hard Drive.

These bad sectors will not allow some files to be copied on the Hard Drive.

These bad sectors can be removed by performing a low level format.

The low level format is a process of performing a complete format which will also remove any bad sectors on the surface of the Hard Drive.

Performing the low level format might decrease the functionality of the Hard Drive.

Hence, it is not recommended to be performed by a normal User.

Hence, in this case, it would be better to get the Hard Drive serviced at the authorized Service Centers.

However, please let me know if you also need the information to perform a low level format.

    Hope this helps.

Please feel free to contact for further information and assistance.

Where do you receive this error message? What discs are you trying to use to re-install the system? Have you been able to do it successfully in the past?

Thanks, let me know and I can help

Please if possible come back to the question here and rate it 4 thumbs. It looks like the answer helped you, but for some reason it doesn't rate it 4 thumbs unless you come back a second time and specify 4 out of 4 thumbs. I hope you will do this for me. Thanks Tim

to stop getting the error message, type msconfig into the run/search box.

Uninstall the software, run a cleaner like CCleaner, run the registry cleaner.

My computer all of a sudden has like 20 viruses, i've tried to install anti viruses software but it never lets me because it says it has been infected??

If that is the case you have to back up all your important files for you will have to reinstall or reformat your whole hard drive back to its original state If you have the operating system cd installation disc you may use that to reformat your computer.

Can you solve the problem for my lap top Toshiba satellite E105-S1402, I am not able to register my finger print on TrueSuite Access Manager Finger Print. The error message come "failed to open the sensor"

You can try to download and install the Fingerprint Utility here and check if you will receive the same error message.

Title: Toshiba Fingerprint Utility for Windows Vista / XP
Download and Install

If the reinstallation of this software does not help then the issue must be related to a corrupt Windows Vista files and in my opinion the usage of the Toshiba recovery CD should helps.

Thanks for using Fixya
