SOURCE: Sata Hard Drive not detected on Bios

I would tend to agree that if the ports are set to autodetect it would suggest that they are looking for drives, but go through every item in your bios just to make sure that there isn't some obscure spot where the port is turned off.

If your bios is not detecting a drive your o/s is not going to find it either, and Linux will likely have the driver it needs when you go to load it. What's more, if it doesn't, you're rather hosed until it does.

If everything looks right after checking and rechecking and sleeping on it and checking again, but your bios still won't find the drive, take the drive back and get it replaced.

SOURCE: pin connection for 'master ..slave

I assume these are IDE drives since SATA doesn't require jumper settings. . .You will need to set the primary drive jumper to master[ma] & the secondary drive jumper to slave[sl]. Some systems require dual hdd systems to have both set to the cable select[cs] jumper. Check your motherboard or system manufacturer manual to see which setup your system requires. If you lost the manual most manufacturers have it availablr on their website under the support link. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: How to make sata hard disk a slave???

Look at the jumper settings. These jumpers are located near the data cable and the power port of the hard disk. Usually by default, this jumper is set to "Master". To make it a slave, just remove the black or blue jumper or please refer to the jumper guide table printed in you hard disk's label.

Hi there.

Since your hard drive is a SATA drive, there is no such thing as master and slave drive anymore.

All you need to do is plug it into your new computer (assuming there is an extra slot for a hard drive in there). You will need an extra plug from your power supply that will plug into the hard drive as well as a SATA cable that will plug your hard drive into the motherboard.

Another thing you can do is get an external hard drive enclosure and put it in that. Just make sure you get a SATA one, not an IDE one. I hope this helps.

This is a SATA drive, in the SATA configuration each drive is on its own, alone on the cable, no master / slave configuration.

Is there a jumper setting to run my hitachi 250 gb sata laptop hdd as a slave ?

There should be, look on the rear of the drive, close to the SATA and power connectors, you should see the jumper connections as well.

It varies from drive to drive, but the jumper setting could be engraved near the connector, look of SL for a slave setting.

If no, look on the label on the top of the drive, there should be the jumper settings listed there.
Some may be ambiguous, my last one offered the option of Master on / off. (Jumper in position 1 for on, no jumper for off) The off in this case was of course slave.

The result being, no jumpers - Slave.

I bought a hard drive HITACHI Deskstar HD31000 and want to know how to tap into the power of the PC, or is that enough to connect to SATA cable only? and also how I would put it in slave, because it is...

The SATA hard drive has two cables, one for power and the other is a data cable.
There are no jumpers on a SATA hard drive to configure as a Master or Slave. this is done by configuring the SATA controller.

Hi where is the jumper to put the hard drive into slave position on a hitachi TRAVELSTAR HTS541080G9SA00 ? I cannot find it Many thanks best regards

Hi
There are no jumpers to set on a SATA drive since they all use individual interfaces with the motherboard.
All you can do is connect the drive you want as master to the first SATA header, slave to the second, and then set the boot priority in BIOS.
They don't have jumper pins like the old days.
Post again if you have questions, and if this helps would you rate my post?

Slave jumper settings for a 2.5 Hitachi DK23DA-20F hard drive

Most hard drives I've come across have tiny little letters on the PCB next to the jumpers that say MA SL CS which are for master, slave, and cable select. If that doesn't work, go to Hitachi's website and search their support section. There is a diagram of the jumpers for that drive out there somewhere. Good luck!
