Other than running your fridge on its own power source or fitting a gas operated fridge,(bottled gas) you must leave it empty, with the door open.....our friends in Canada have gas for heating and fridge /freezer and a generator, so they dont suffer any power cuts in winter.

Hello Geoff Bowen,

Industry standard is now pretty cheesy capacitors...
(the reason not to feel persecuted until number three fails!!

but yes... if you have your set in the sun-light or poorly ventilated... any increased heat will cause the caps to fail MORE QUICKLY.

(always use a wrist band on any board you care about)

But by the time that happens you will have already figured out
to send your old boards for repair... or better...

Even Amazon has cap "kits" and replacement boards.

Can hear compressor, cois get frosty but fan cuts out after five minutes. Why?

IF THE FAN IS CUTTING OUT U MAY HAVE STUCK TIMER IN THE DEFROST CYCLE MODE BUT MORE LIKELY U HAVE A POWER ISSUE, IS THIS A digital cold control thermostat? if so the control board itself may not be communicating with the thermostat, when the fan cuts out does the compressor keep running? and no clicking sounds?

VCR Power flicks on and off

It sounds like a serious problem that would cost more to repair than the unit is worth. I would suggest that you not use the vcr. It could be dangerous to leave it plugged in. If there is a power problem it could cause a fire. I would say it is time to move on to a newer unit. I hope this advice helps and good luck.

Freezer will not come on It is at our cottage and last week end when we arrived it also wasn't on but when I turned the control higher it came on and froze the food very well. We left 5 days ago and just...

What is the temperature in the cabin when it isn't occupied??
If the temperature in cabin drops to or below 55 degrees, then the thermostat that controls the machine, being in the fresh food compartment will not cycle the machine.
If you warm up the cabin for a decent period of time, and it fails to run, you will need to replace the main cold control.
Without the approx. age, the style of the machine, top, bottom or SXS style and where the temperature controls are located. Both in Fresh food compartment, one each in freezer and fresh food area, this is the best I can give you.
Please, in the future, give as many details about what machine we are working on to give you the best possible answers. Jack
P.S. is it possible someone shut off the power that runs the machine when you left ???

Fridge and freezer not cooling. The fan is running

Is the compressor clicking? If so, the pressure may be too high. tHis happens if the temperature control is lowered too soon after the compressor cuts off, or if house power fails for a shorrt period, etc.

1. UNPLUG the power cord.
2. Set the temperature dial to the settings you want.
3. Close doors and wait a full 10 minutes (more if you don't get impatient).
4. After 10 full minutes, plug power cord back in. It should start now.
5. Try not to open fridge for an hour or so, or until you hear tyhe compressor cycle off.

Hope this hellps!

There should be a small port at the rear of the freezer bottom. Make absolutely sure that your fridge is perfectly level, front to rear and side to side. This should clear your port next time the freezer defrosts. I'm only assuming it is a frost free unit.

Freezer not cold enough

Hi yes you do need to keep the room the freezer is in at ahigher temperature probably not below 55 although you will need to experiment to find the minimum you can get away with. This is because modern refrigeration is designed for heated environments and some types are more susceptible than others to this situation.
Hope this will Fixya.

Picture problems

Sounds like a problem in the main power regulator circuit, such as a bad capacitor or regulator IC or transisitor. There are no user serviceable parts inside these sets and every thing is soldered into place. I recomend that you call in a trained service tech to assist you with this repair.
