The old batteries were just dead, not leaking

  • robert31 Sep 09, 2010

I do have the external power supply that came with the radio but it does nothing. The radio is still dead.

  • robert31 Sep 09, 2010

I would love to give it to a tech. to work on but I live in St. John, US Virgin Islands and there is no one here to work on it. Do you have any suggestions?

Will have to check if the internal clock battery is fine. Next you must check if the battery voltage is reaching the microprocessor so a s the controller works.
For this use a multimeter to test the voltage on the mP, the if possible see if the processor is clocking. Unless this section works your phone will not be switched on.
use a magnification glass to see if there is any pins out of PCB. If so do a touch up solder around these suspected sections.

Sorry for the delayed post, I took a look at the user manual. Since you have checked the lock button (take a look at the timer options too) I have to suggest you to try with power supply, if there is available. By the way you mentioned that you cleaned contacts. Does this means that the batteries were exhausted and was a leakage of acids? In that case maybe there is an internal (near the connectors) cut of a power cable.

Well totally powered off. Usually these (portable) devices don't have any fuse or other protection method, so I don't assume that if you open the case you will be able to find a fuse to change. The most common problem is problem at the power jack. As the power jack cut off the batteries in order to not use batteries while it's in mains power, a possible problem here means totally loss of power. Since the radio was working fine before, why don't you get it at a technician?

If you think that I can help you further, don't hesitate to post me a reply before rejecting my answer.

I like your place (from photos).... Anyway .... Are you able to use soldering tools and a multimeter? Our purpose is to unscrew the back cover of the radio (usually some philips type screws) and check the power connector jack. Since we can not have replacements, maybe we will do some modifications in connecting the power.

Waiting clarification, don't hesitate to post.

    Thanks and regards

It may be something more serious, or your new batteries may be too low for the camera to work properly, but the problem you describe is frequently due to corrosion on the battery contacts inside the camera. Remove the batteries and wipe the camera contacts firmly with a clean cloth (heavy corrosion buildups may require cleaning with a wire brush, steel wool, or sandpaper). Remove any residue that may have fallen into the battery compartment, clean the contacts at both ends of the batteries, and reinstall them in the camera. Assuming that the batteries are fresh/fully charged, this takes care of about 90% of the startup problems. I hope it works for you.

Camera wont switch on

well assuming the camera hasn't been damaged, make sure of the polarity of the batteries when installing them. Also make sure they are all fresh and of the same kind. If one battery is bad, it will prevent the camera from turning on. If still a problem, use a "Q" tip dipped in alcohol to clean the battery contacts in the camera. If this doesn't solve your problem, contact the mfg about downloading new firmware for the camera... Hope this helps.

I was having the same problem, I took a clean pencil eraser and polished the contacts in the camera.
Using fresh new batteries, I also lightly cleaned the contacts points with emery cloth. I cleaned with alcohal and Q-tips. Issue resolved for now.
