F htn01, May need aid of 10x inspection microscope to find pesky "thermal-cycle-fractured" solder joint connections. I use an old wwII B&L to do my hunting. Also check the board-side of the electrolytic filter capacitors to see if rubber seal has been forced out of the bottom of capacitors. How old is monitor? Have you taken any close-up (3 inch) digital pic's to document your work? I would not trust ANY CapXon brand capacitors. I use an old Stanford Research Systems SR720 LCR meter to measure and GRADE capacitors. What do you mean by "stays on for a few seconds"?? Is it on for 1 to 3 seconds or 45 to 295 seconds? Will you remove capacitors and have them measured at local repair shop? 12fixlouie

Sanyo DP46142 TV comes on for approximately 30 seconds and then screen goes black. Power LED stays on.

Sounds like a backlight problem to me. If you input a signal to the HDMI or Composite input and then it goes black have you tried taking a flashlight to the screen to see if the picture is still there but just dark? That would indicate a backlight issue. That model appears to be an LED edge lit backlight, so if the picture is still there after going black your going to have to trace out the backlight circuit and see whats going on. Usually with LED backlighting if it comes on at all then the LED's are good, its just the driver supply thats failing to keep them on. Some TV's have a small separate board that provides the backlight control, but i suspect with this model its on the power supply board and not the motherboard. Have you checked that board? It could be bad caps on the power supply board, check the voltages to the backlighting when it lights up and then when it goes dark. It could just be some failed capacitors on the power supply causing that voltage rail to drop off.

Lenovo 9227ac1 comes on then goes black light on front stays green

When it have this kind of error is a problem of the power-board.
Anyway you must open it and look at the all capacitors and if are them inflated, if them are inflated must change them.

But can be a problem with inverters... control the transistors - MOSFET on the powerboard.

Good luck!

Hello Richard Strong,
Welcome, and thank you for using FixYa!
To answer your question: I believe you need to replace the two capacitors that you skipped.
Then touch up every soldier joint on the power supply board. Lastly, I would look for the replacement part for the +5V and -5V transistors on the power supply board. They may need replaced as well. If you have an Ocilliscope you may be able to test out where the power is failing.

Have a great day!

My dell monitor turns on for 2 seconds then goes black and the green light blinks orange

I assume that you already try this monitor on another PC to verify that the problem is in the monitor, in this case you need to open it up and inspect the fuse, transitors, solder connections on the power/inverter board, see failed Dell monitors here for guide: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further.

Please post the pictures, that will help. Do find any fuse in the inverter circuits, if you do have 5v (for logic) and 12v (for backlights), then may be the power supply is OK but I am not sure that the inverter is using 12vdc since you have some caps rated at 35vdc, Iwould expect the inverter to be using 24vdc for backlights. See some of the pictures I posted here: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums

Samsung monitor picture clicks off after 2-5 seconds...

Yes, It sounds like the backlight inverter circuit is shutting down. No inverter power, no backlight. On some monitors the inverter circuit will shot circuit the power power supply which makes the power light flash on some it just kills the backlight. You can usually check with a flashlight. Hold the flashlight pointed at the screen and see if you can see any of the icons or background picture. If you can then it is the backlight circuit or backlight tubes, usually the circuit.

SCREEN GOES BLACK AFTER A FEW SECONDS AFTER TURNING MONITOR ON.

More often then not, this is attributed to a failing Backlight Inverter. A Backlight Inverter, is a power board mounted below the screen that actually send power to the Lamp inside the LCD itself. Check to see, when it goes out if there isn't still some images faint in the screen. If this is the case take it to a local repair shop and have them order one and replace it. repair cost for this shuold be around 65-100 dollars.

If this helps, please rate my solution. Have a great day.

Monitor goes black but the green light stays on. I turn the power button off and then back on and it comes back on. It may stay on for a few seconds to several minutes.

Check to see if the image is Dimmed. Chances are the power supply on the FPD is either dead or not supplying power to the back lights.

Your problem is the back lights are not being powered. There is a signal going to your FPD because the power light remains on green, but the back lights are what helps support an image from the Front Panel Display.
The only way to fix this is to open it up.

If its got 3 boards inside((logic-->video, Inverter, Power)) The problem is the Inverter. Replace it.
The inverter is the board that supplies power for the backlights to turn on. The backlights
provide a light.for the LCD Panel(provides color and is the logic. ... similar to a projector.
If its got 2 boards inside ((Logic-->video, Power)) The problem is the power supply. The inverter is embedded onto it.

Simply replace the part with a known good one, and you got a spanking new monitor.

Your problem is the power supply or the inverter on your board, you can replace it and it will be fixed.
Easy Fix REALLY EASY FIX
(inverter is what supplies power to your backlights. A lot of the times the reason a monitor goes black and the green power button is on, is because the backlights shut off. in most designs of the 1730 the inverter is embedded on the power supply. That is most often the case on this problem. Power supply/Inverter=Replace it and you will have a spanking new looking nice monitor working again. :)

RE:monitor goes black

Monitor going black after a few seconds can be causd by a faulty power supply or inverter. Some monitors have both as one unit.
Sometimes it is basic failed capacitors, After that then I would look at transistors.
The average monitor from 17 to 20 and sometimes the 22s have usually 4 bulbs in them. One bad bulb will also cause the inverter to not fire up.
Bad bulbs usually show pinkish tint, or flickering or are dark at center top or bottom of the display.
