Just wandering if anyone has had problems with their brakes.
I.ve had my brake disks and pads replaced but I still get a gringing noise.
The noise happens when it wants to. Sometimes I can be in the car for 5
minuts and when I brake the brinding noise occurs, sometimes it happens
after a hour or two. I took one of Daewoos main guys for a drive to try and
show him the problem but alas nothing happened, dropped him off and voila it
happened

on disc brake problems that can be caused by..of all things... under
inflated tires. The chain of events goes something like this. Disc
brakes rest lightly against the rotor nearly all the time. Under
inflated tires can heat up much more than normally inflated tires.
This heat expands the rotor and brake parts just slightly, but enough
to press the disc pads against the rotor with some pressure. This is
like riding the brake pedal and causes excessive brake wear, rotor
warping, and a host of other problems. This problem is especally
pronounced on front wheel drive vehicles as the front tires have the
stress of moving the vehicle, and of turning, and frequently loose
some air pressure more quickly than the rear tires.

they had already warped after 2 months. The dealer replaced the rotors
without any hassle. My problem on my car was called "brake judder" and
while there was no grinding sounds when I braked coming off the
freeway there was a shudder that came through the steering wheel. This
is not a problem exclusive to Daewoo.

which hardens the rotor in spots
causing the the pads to slip over the hardened spots.

replaced on my Leganza, and yes, they're going to squake for a while.
What's happening is that the mechanics are now using a softer and
thicker break pad that was on the cars before. I was told that some of
the original pads actually used Asbestos, which had the danger of
getting into the mechanics' lungs. These new pads are made from some
recycled material and are supposed to last much longer, but because
they're a softer pad, it's going to take them a while to "wear in", so
to speak. The occasional squeaking is going to be normal for a while.
However, it it's actually a GRINDING noise instead of squealing,
that's something else...

The Nubira has similar brake problems, so I suspect it is widespread. My
brakes started to pulse, and they shaved the rotors. That worked for
about 6 months or so and then it returned. They replaced the rotors and
the pads. That worked for another 8 months and now they are starting to
pulse again. They also squeal from time to time and there is grinding
feeling up front when turning slowly. When I had it in for my 24,000
service a few weeks ago (that I paid for) they said they couldn't hear
the noise. After reading these postings, I suspect they were just trying
to get rid of me because they didn't want to do the warranty service on
the brakes. The service guy did tell me, by the way, that they were
having trouble getting brake parts. He said they could only get one set
in a week. To me, that was indicative of a pervasive brake design
problem. I hope somebody in the US sees this as an opportunity and
starts manufacturing brake parts for these things.
