SOURCE: hotpoint fridge model CSx20KATA AD defrost timer

Hi, This model does not have a defrost timer. It actually has a motherboard. If you have a defrost problem, the nore common part to check first is the defrost heater or termination switch ( bi-metal). These two parts are located inside the freezer compartment behind the rear panel where the frost is building up.
These two parts must have continuity. If one or noth of them have no continuity, they need replaced. Please use a hair dryer (NOT a sharp object the remove the frost from the evaporator coils.
If you need any more help or need to order the part, I can help you and we can order the parts off my web site
Let me know if I can help.

My freezer has ice and fridge does not cool. Admiral signature model HMG 19802. Any ideas

Sounds like you have a defrost problem. First thing check if you fan motor in the freezer is running. You can open the freezer door and press in the door switch and listen to the fan motor. if fan motor is running, you have a problem in the defrost system. if not, you have a bad door switch or fan motor. (not very common)
to test defrost system: Locate defrost timer (under front kick plate) and rotate slowly until you hear a click. After a few minutes you will start hearing crackling sound and see water flowing down the drain line.
if defrost is working, replace the defrost timer. if not, you either have a bad defrost heater or def. thermostat. best think is to replace both.
for more accurate instructions, we need more detailed description of problem

Admiral hmg 19143 not defrosting

One things to test is the door seal. If it leaks you get frost. The defrost timer is usually hidden and has a slot in it to advance it by hand with a screwdriver. The way to test it is to turn it till the fan shuts off and see if the defrost coil comes on. IT nothing happens then the defrost coil needs to be tested with a meter. Those coils are not cheap either. Even if it does come on, the defrost timer might need replacing because it does not have enough power to turn the cam and activate the switches.

Assuming your evaporator is completely frozen, I would defrost the coils with a hair dryer, the clip off the defrost thermostat on top of the evaporator coils. Strip and short the wires together, then check if defrost works, if so, order a new one .

You can easily test your defrost heater with an ohm meter. And most of the time you can test it in the unit. Unplug defrost heater leads on both ends, and then put one lead of the ohm meter on one end and the other lead on the other end. The meter will show you whether you have an open circuit or not. If it is open, then you will have to replace it.

Ohm meters are very cheap under $20, and could save you money if the defrost heater is good. It is also a very good item to have for testing electrical problems in the house or car.

Where is defrost timer located

If you have a defrost timer you can test it. It can be located under the fridge behind the kick panel on the front. Some are in the fridge with the controls at the top. You can turn the defrost timer till it clicks and everything shuts down. The heater should now come on. If it does, replace the timer because that means the timer is not running. If it doesn't, check the heater and defrost thermostat. Turn the timer again till everything starts back up to end the defrost cycle.

If you have an adaptive defrost control instead of a timer, replace it if the heater and thermostat test good. It is located in the fridge with the controls in some models and on the back in others.
You can post your model number into one of several appliance parts sites on the internet and search for defrost components to find your parts.

Where would i locate defrost timer on my ge bottom freezer refrigerator

Older fridges use a defrost timer to control when the fridge goes into defrost. Yours is a newer model and uses a control module which controls all of the fridge's functions including defrost timing. It does not have a defrost timer. It cost around $150. But I would check the defrost element first. A lot of problems with the defrost are usually a burnt out heating element. Use a meter and check that the element is not electrically open.

Automatic defrost no longer works

If freezer is icing up, you might have a defrost problem. Frost free models have a heating element that is controlled by a timer to automatically defrost ice, defrost timer turns on defrost heating element every 12 hours to melt ice in freezer and allow good air flow.
You can test defrost element with an ohm meter(located inside freezer coils-will have two wires going to a plug connection), if OK replace defrost timer (located in various places depending on make and model
