You may have muted the sound. Go into Control Panel and click on Sound. You can see if the sound is muted, and can increase the volume, if needed. You will also need to decide it you want the sound sent to speakers or headset there, and which sound system you are using.
Do one thing lock your computer and press the shift button many times and then check is any sound coming from the desktop. if yes the install the sound drivers and no then speakers of the desktop are not working.
