Question about Gateway GT5408 PC Desktop

1 Answer

We experienced a power outage today, our Gateway GT5408 was in Stand-by mode when it happened. After our power was restored, our computer will turn on with the cooling fans running and the leds light up, the disc drive will even open and close... but it isn't booting up. It just sits there, fans running and not much else. No beeps of any kind, no video whatsoever. What could be the problem?

It could be the monitor died or the monitor cable is loose at one of the ends ( check both ends are connected and tight ).
try another monitor or if you have a newer TV with a vga monitor connector try your TV. (you will need to change the TV input to computer or to VGA )

Hello,

Depending on what caused the power outage, you may need to replace the power supply in the server. When outage happen and the power is restore. a power surge can destroy power supplies, especially if not connected to an UPS unit.

Try start up in Safe Mode press F8. Choose Safe Mode, when at the choice window, to select either Safe Mode Desktop, OR System Restore, chooses system restore and choose a time before you had the "Problem" and follow instructions. This should get you back.

I have a gateway computer need to format it back to factory settings but don't have the recovery disk how do i do his

I'm told 4 things concerning gateways.

1) Press Alt over and over and over on the first screen you see when booting the computer.

2) Press F10 over and over.

3) Press F11 over and over.

4) press Alt +F10 or Alt + F11 over and over...

One of those 4 will eventually take you to the restore partition. Sorry, the forum I looked at was little help.
