Question about Dream Maker Spas Dream Maker SpaDition Vico Pump 15 HP ()

1 Answer

My customer's spa works/heats beautifully until they get in for up to only 10 minutes. The spa reads out OH and then will not go into any mode. We have restarted the spa after waiting some time and then it will run again as it should. What could be causing this problem. The spa came with the house they bought. Also we are in need of a instruction manual...on line?

This sounds like a flow issue. Your controller and heater is made by Balboa and requires a minimum flow rate of around 25 gallons a minute to function properly. This flow rate is measured by sampling temperature differences between the inlet and outlet of the heater. If the flow is low the temperature will increase at the outlet. As long as the difference is less than 4 degrees, then the unit will function normally, but once the difference increases to 4 degrees or above the unit will shutdown and display OH, OHH or DR ( may vary depending on model). Reasons for this occurring... dirty filter, clogged pump inlet, partially or completely closed valve in the same line as the heater, obstruction in the plumbing before or after the pump, blocked suction fittings. There is a simple test that can be performed to determine if the problem is flow related. On the main circuit board is 1 or more banks of micro switches (called DIP switches) They are usually red in color and numbered 1-x (x being the highest number from 5-9). On the insideof the control box lid is a schematic which references these switches in a chart or table. Usually Dip Switch 1 will be the one. This switch is usually OFF. With the System on and running - Using a Pen or small tipped (INSULATED) screwdriver, carefully push the switch to the ON position (up or down as needed). Now observe the display and watch for "A" and a temp, then watch for "B" and a temp. Note the difference between the 2 temp readings. NO difference is good, any difference less than 3 is good, any difference 3 and higher is NOT good and indicates a flow issue. If the reading is high, look for one of the above symptoms to be present.

The instrumentation panel says "SL" and the spa isn't heating. How do I get it to heat again?

You have it in "Sleep" mode. Spa will not heat normally in this mode...

If the SL Message is Alternating with the Water Temp in the Display Screen (we call this "Flashing Sleep"), the Spa is Operating in the Sleep Heating Mode.

If the SL Message is ON Solid (Not Flashing) in the Display window of the panel, the Spa is Operating in the Sleep Heating Mode, but there is No current water temperature because the Spa is between Filter Cycles.

Between Filter Cycles, while in the Economy or Sleep Heating Modes, the Pump has not turned ON and the Last Water Temperature is not Current. To read the Current Water Temperature, either Change to Standard Heating Mode or turn On the Heating Related Pump, and wait at least 2 Minutes.

SL or SLP is one of the Modes you can program your spa into:
EC - Economy
ST/Std - Standard
SL/SLP - Sleep

It is advised you keep your spa in Standard mode. Push the Jets button then immediately push the light button. Each press of the light button will scroll between these three modes.

Good Luck

A downeast hot tub water is only 78 degrees turn up to 100 doesn't never get warmer and shows a ECn code

Check your filter cycles and switch spa into Standard Mode as you have it in Economy. (In Economy mode it will only heat during the filter cycles).
If the Ecn or Ec Message is Alternating with the Water Temperature on the Display, the Spa is Operating in the Economy Heating Mode.

If the Ecn or Ec Message is ON Solid (Not Flashing) on the Display, the Spa is Operating in the Economy Heating Mode, but there is No current water temperature because the Spa is between Filter Cycles.

Ecn or Ec is Alternating with Temp:
The Spa is Operating in the "Economy" (Ecn or Ec) Heating Mode.

The Water Temperature is Sampled Only during Programmed Filter Cycles. The Heater will Only operate and Heat up to Set Temperature during the Filter Cycles. The Water Temperature will probably drop Below Set Temperature between Filter Cycles. Other Heating Modes are Standard, Standard in Economy, and Sleep Modes.

Ecn or Ec is ON Solid (Not Flashing):
The Current Water Temperature is "Unknown" (- - - or - -) while in Economy or Sleep Mode.

Hi have problem with canadian spa (balboa mrspa1) control panel digital reading when turned on goes to OH,circulation pump will not run

OHS, OH, or SPA TEMP LMT Message There is an "Over Heated Spa" (OHS or OH) Water Condition.

One of the Water Temp Sensors has detected 110°F (43.3°C) Incoming Water Temp and Spa Functions are Disabled. System will Auto Reset when Water Temp is below 108°F (42.2°C). Check for Extended Pump Operation or High Ambient Temp, or contact your Dealer or Service Organization.

Spa Water Cool Down
• In order for the Spa Water Overheat Error Message to Automatically Reset and Clear, the Spa Water Must Cool to below 108°F (42.2°C).
• Check the Topside Panel Display to see if the "OHS", "OH", or "SPA TEMP LMT" Spa Water Overheat Error Message has Cleared. If the Error Message has Not Cleared, the Spa Water is still too Hot to Continue Testing.
• Either Wait for the Spa Water to Cool Below 108°F (42.2°C), or Exit Now and Retest at a Later time.

Pool heater is not working properly

So I assume you have pressed the button by pool to select the pool thermostat? If this doesn't work sounds like another mother board problem, or try powering down the unit a few minutes then restart. IF you haven't pressed the pool button, the read this: The heater comes factory set at 78° F. for the pool mode and 100° F. for the spa mode. If it's in spa mode it's trying to get to 100F. Using the up and down arrows, you can set the thermostats to a minimum temperature of 65° F., or a maximum of 104° F. If you desire to heat only one
body of water, the thermostat is capable of an off mode. As an example, if you only wish to heat the pool and not the spa simply depress and hold the spa down arrow, and the thermostat will lower its setting to 65° F. then go to an off mode. Spa / hot tub does not heat

Your temperature control is way out of calibration or, it's wired wrong. Remove it and check it in a glass of water. Use an ohm meter across the heater wires. As you add hot wwater, the heater contacts should open.
