What are you trying to do or accomplish? Are you wanting to format it, access the data on it, or something else? Have you tried formattting it?

Does "to partitions" actually mean "2 partitions" or "two partitions" instead?

It might help if you stated how the drive got in that condition.

Hi, i connected an sata hdd wd5000aaks, but when i try to ninstall te windows he can see only 131072MB free. I have 5 partitions : the first is 50gb the others +- 100GB maked and formated as external...

The boards BIOS should not reference the partitions at all as this is done by software (ie OS) not the bios other than to identify the drive find its active partition and run the bootstrap.
It may be that your bios needs a newer firmware to recognize the drive correctly, or you could try manually entering the Cylinders, Heads & Sectors like the good old days, but IMO a bios update would be the thing to do.

I have 250gb WD external HDD , but after connect while initial it gives "the media is write protected" i am unable to access partitions

Hi,
Right click on your My Computer icon and select Manage,
Now click on Disk Management.
Here you can see your Hard Disc partition.

Write click on any drive and format it. It will remove your write protection.

But Make sure it will delete all data on that partition.

Connect the external storage

Click Manage
Click Storage
Click Disk Management

Check to see if there is a "healthy" partition covering the disk-space of the external storage device.

Cannot access hard drive, USB port detects it, but does not access

You can verify what drive has been detected by your Operating System, which I assume is Windows of some sort by going to: Control Panel -> Admistrative Tools -> Computer Management -> Disk Management -> Your Hard disk will be displayed with all existing partitions.
I order to use any partitions in your new drive, you will need to assign a drive letter to each new partition.
If you have a brand new drive that is completely unformatted, then you will need, also via the context menu, Create partitions, Format partitions and assign a drive letter so that you can use the formatted partitions.

Hope it helps: let me know how you go!

My computer now recognizes the drive but

See: http://www.fixya.com/support/t3770934-western_digital_hard_drive_isnt

Connect the external drive
Click Start
Right-mouse click on My Computer
Click Manage
Click Storage
Click Disk Management (Local)
Does it show the 500GB as "raw" or "unformatted" space?
If so, then "create a partition".

I can not see the other items on my hard drive and it only shows 83gb on my 500gb hard drive help

Hello,
It could be that the other 400gb is unformatted space. Use a utility such as Partition magic to extend the formatted partition, or create a partition in the unformatted space.

Hope it helps.

Hard drive

There are several applications that advertise the ability to unformat hard drives, here are a few I've found, though I have not used them:

http://www.restorer2000.com/

http://www.sharewareconnection.com/titles/unformat.htm

http://unformat-ntfs.qarchive.org/

Some of these are shareware, some have demos but require purchase to actually complete the unformat.

Also, recovery will also depend upon whether the drive was just formatted or with data was overwritten by other files.

Mayday! Mayday!!

if you are using windows explorer then i'd say you're pooched on getting the info out.
~~However~~
you could always attempt loading up DOS and finding the drive that has been lost. from there you can copy the info from that drive to one of the other partitions. if this doesn't work then the only other thing i could suggest would be to get a pro, or use an external back up drive with the "one touch back-up" functionality and see if that works.

but try DOS first.
