SOURCE: Front Loading LG Washing Machine leaves smelly sludge in wash tub

I have a front loading machine also and am not willing to have to constantly clean out the machine -- the soap and fabric softeners you use are building up between the inner and outer drums (and on the drum itself sometimes). Because the machines door is so tightly sealed (to prevent water leakage) the smell from this buildup is awful. I finally found the solution. MAGGIE'S SOAP NUTS -- they are all natural (grow on trees) and will remove the grime from your drum and also clean your clothes (you won't even need fabric softener anymore). Stop using commercial detergents and fabric softeners and start using Maggie's Soap Nuts. They are not very cheap but they work great -- I have found that making a liquid out of the soap nuts and storing it in a bottle works better than putting them in the sack cloth they come with (because front loaders do not agitate constantly like regular machines, the cloth bag sits on the clothes and sometimes leaves a stain -- the liquid will not leave a stain. YOU WILL SOLVE YOUR PROBLEM AND HAVE SOFTER CLOTHES TO BOOT (without fabric softener so you save some money there). They are also better for septic tanks, the environment and your health! I believe Whole Foods sells them and they are also on the internet at www.Maggiessoapnuts.com Note: Also go to www.newstarget.com -- they are going to buy these in bulk to cut the cost in half but don't have them yet. You should be able to buy them there soon.

SOURCE: Brown spotting on washed clothes

chances are if you have eliminated anything thats got in by accident that the drum bearings are about to go, the drum bearings are protected by a water seal, this has started to leak and is now washing the grease out of the bearings back into the wash, you may also find a small amount of water on the floor, if you also remove the back and look behind the large pulley you may also see brown water marks running from the center of the outer drum

the next step will be a very noisy spin, like a rumbling noise

DRUM BEARINGS sorry

SOURCE: My washing machine is leaving

Describe the residue. If it's oily (black, dk green) then the seal is out of the tranny and oil is getting into the tub. Dry cleaning is best for oil based stains. Liquid dish detergent is good also. On white it is tough to remove. Your washer will need a new transmission or replacing.

If it is powdery I'd guess a soap buildup, especially if you've recently changed detergents. The new detergent is breaking up the old soap scum in the outer drum and it is redepositing onto your clothes. This should wash out/off.
Tip: If it's a soap residue, fill washer full without clothes with hot water. Add 1 gallon white vinegar and more hot water until the unit if as full as possible. Agitate 15 minutes and drain. Rinse with a full level and drain.

Hi. I have a 2nd hand WD8016C LG but dont know which compartment is pre wash, wash + fabric softener. Also, bubbles form at the window and stay at the end Thankyou

First compartment on right side of drawer is prewash, next to it on the left is wash, second compartment on right is softener. Bubbles because you are using far too much detergent. Only use 2 tablespoons max for normal fairly large wash load, even less for smaller loads. Front loaders use little water, so need much less detergent. Also, highly suggest you not use softener, leaves residue in washer that soon turns to mildew and bad odors. Use white vinegar in its place. Helps remove detergent residue from clothes, keeps tub smelling good, and is very inexpensive. Liquid detergent is also an issue--it too leaves residue behind. Powdered detergent works much better and also is cheaper(counterintuitive you would think liquid dissolves better, but it doesn't).

Getting Rid of Front Loader Mildew and Odor

This advice is for that awful mildew smell associated with front loader style washing machines.
Place the washer on the hottest setting you have with nothing but bleach in the wash tub. Some newer models actually have a “Clean Cycle” available now just for this purpose. This helps keep the wash tub, drain lines and pump sanitized.

CHECK AND CLEAN THE DRAIN PUMP FILTER. Accumulations of debris in the drain pump filter can also cause odors. HINT: If you own a shop vac, pull the drain hose from the standpipe at the wall and pull a vacuum on the line. This will drain any residual water left in the tub, pump and drain lines BEFORE you remove the drain pump cover. This will prevent a messy clean up later.

LEAVE THE DOOR OPEN IF POSSIBLE. When not in use, leave the door open to allow the tub to air out and to keep mold and mildew from forming on the door bellow. I know this may not be desirable in some households with small children. If too much mildew forms on the rubber and it cannot be removed, replacement of the bellow may be required.

USE HE DETERGENT ONLY. Using regular detergent, or improper amounts of detergent can contribute to the build up of soap scum in which dirt can collect. Regular detergent is formulated to be used in a conventional wash tub with capacity of about 35 gallons. A high efficiency front loader only uses 5 to 7 gallons of water. So, if you use regular detergent in a front loader, you are, in affect, using about 5 times the concentration of detergent needed. This can cause oversudsing, premature wear on the pump motor and parts, premature wear on rubber seals, odor from sticky soap residue and skin irritations caused by soap residue left in clothing. Using improper detergent will also void the manufacturer's warranty. Make sure you READ all detergent labels some HE detergent is double (2X) and triple (3X) concentrated.

Getting Rid of Front Loader Mildew and Odor

This advice is for preventing or getting rid off that awful mildew smell associated with front loader style washing machines.

The first thing to do is to CHECK IN AND AROUND THE RUBBER DOOR BOOT (called a bellow) for small articles of clothing (like socks and underwear) that may have gotten lodged in behind the rubber. Pull the rubber back where it meets the wash tub and look behind it. It is common for small items to get stuck here, become forgotten and start to mildew. You should check this area after each wash and clean it periodically to get rid of the formation of soap scum, mold, and mildew. HINT: When you get ready to wash a load of towels, take a dirty towel and clean the door boot thoroughly (including the areas behind the rubber). Immediately place the towel in the wash and run it on a sanitary cycle. This way you eliminate the need for cleaning rags.

PERIODICALLY RUN THE WASHER ON A CLEANING CYCLE. Place the washer on the hottest setting you have (usually a Sanitary cycle) with nothing but bleach in the wash tub.

I know this may not be desirable in some households with small children. If too much mildew forms on the rubber and it cannot be removed, replacement of the bellow may be required.

NOTE: This problem is common with front loader style washing machines. The doors on these machines have an air tight/water tight seal that is great for sealing the washer during the wash cycle, but can be terrible for collecting small garments and for not allowing the tub to properly air out when not in use. Following these simple preventive measures can go a long way towards preventing harmful mold and mildew, and towards extending the life of the door bellow and pump.

I hope this information is found to be helpful.

Nice, or not nice?

To get rid of the mildew odor, run an empty machine on the hottest setting with bleach or Affresh ($8, homedepot.com), a cleaner that deodorizes a washer's interior. And after each load of laundry, leave the door ajar to allow the interior to dry.

How to get rid of black residue from lg washing machine

The black residue indicates a mould problem. There seem to be a lot of people reporting this problem on the LG washing machines on numerous forums. Since you are dealing with mould you should exercise proper precautions, including wearing a mask, so you do not breathe in the mould. If mould gets into your lungs, you will never be able to get rid of it.

To clean up the mould use plenty of bleach. Make sure to remove the dispenser door to get at the spots where the mould tends to build up. To prevent it, leave the washing machine door open after every wash.

Can't get rid of E1 error on a Samsung front loader washing mach.

E1 : washing machine has exceeded a check time for fill, heat or empty.

Common causes for this are fill and empty problems, heater fault (or the wiring
to it broken), water pump open circuit (although that would stop the water draining too) Pressure chamber blocked or pressure tubing pipe looped below the pressure bottle, or a sticking eco ball in the sump hose (sludge and grease build up)

This error code is generic and vey common.Since you have tried the remedies.Try getting checked the internal wiring damage by professionals.I hope certainly hope the problem lies there.

Brown sludge under drum making washing dirty

Hi,

You can try to wash on a high temperature with some soda instead of washingpowder.
And offcourse without any clothing in it.
Due the modern washingmethode's the temperature is always very low.
Then you get some dirt sticked into your machine.
We had the same problem, but it's solved now.

Hope it helps,
Gerard
