Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Hi ! I've just bought a Kingston DataTraveler C10 thumbdrive. When I clicked on it in My Computer, I saw it had some preinstalled files (some applications). When cliking on install, I received a message saying that the application was not available in my area (Thailand)...so I deleted all those files. 1) Was that a mistake - should I have saved them ? 2) If important, how can I restore/reinstall them ? Hans

Hey!

It's actually fine even if you delete/format the contents of the USB. Regarding that message, looks like that program would only work for a different region. The USB stick will still function properly. The truth is it's best advised that every time you buy a storage device for your computer, you should format it just to make sure that there are no unwanted stuff in it and to make sure that you have a clean storage device.

Hope this helps! :D

I bought a Kingston Datatraveler 32 GB but when copying files of 5 GB or more I got a Message that the file destination on the datatraveler is too small

You might need a bigger drive ?
In the Microsoft Windows operating system, you can copy and paste 5 GB files as long as you have enough disk drive space. The disk drive to which you're pasting the file must be formatted using the New Technology File System (NTFS), which supports the copying and pasting of very large files.

Purchase a large capacity USB external hard disk drive from a reputable vendor. Make sure that the hard disk drive is at least 100 GB. Connect the external hard disk drive to a spare USB port in your computer. Wait for the Windows operating system to recognize the hard disk drive. Double-click on the "Computer" icon on the Windows Desktop, after which a window will appear listing all of your disk drives. Establish the letter of the new hard disk drive you have just installed. For the purpose of this article, the drive letter is assumed to be "E." Right-click on drive "E," click on "Format," change the file system to "NTFS," then click on the "Start" button. Wait for the process to complete. Click on the 5 GB+ file to select it, then press "Ctrl" + "C" on your keyboard to copy the file to the Windows Clipboard. Click on the "Computer" icon on the Windows Desktop, then double-click on the "E" drive. This will open the root folder of the hard disk drive in the same window. Press "Ctrl" + "V" on your keyboard to paste the 5 GB+ file from the Windows Clipboard to the new hard disk drive. Wait for the process to complete, which will take several minutes.

Kingston 8gb pen has malfuntioned

Files on a flash drive canbe corrupted if it is not removed from the USB port properly.
Before removing the flash drive click on the Safely Remove Hardware icon andthen click on the flash drive you want to remove and then remove the flashdrive when the computer message says it is Safe to remove.
To restore the flash drive to working order you need to format the flash drive,BUT you will lose the data stored on the flash drive.
If you need the data on the flash drive these WEB sites may help: -

Windows xp cannot detect kingston datatraveler II

Hello there,

Try plugging your kingston usb thumbdrive to a different usb port and see if the system detects it. If it does not, try restarting your computer then try it again. You can further isolate the problem by plugging the kingston to another computer's usb. If all did not work, then your usb thumbdrive is fried due to not being able to properly disconnecting it from the computer (doing a "safely remove").

Thank you for using FixYa. Merry Christmas.

How do I download my computer files onto a Kingston DataTraveler 110

Look for the DataTraveller in My Computer and then just copy and paste or cut and paste any files you want straight to the DataTraveler.
Right click on the file, select copy or cut (cut will move the file permanently, copy will just make a copy of it)
Right click the DataTraveler and paste.
