My hot water tank is continually leaking ? I shut off the valve at the top of the tank and it is still leaking ??

They wear out especially if they are older. You did not say what make and model it is but if there is water coming out the bottom it is time for a new unit. The leak is still happening because even though there is not supply pressure, gravity is pulling the water out the break in the liner.

Unit is probably rusted out:

Reliance is AO Smith. I recommend the AO Smith line-up of water heater brands as best because air intake screen is located on bottom of unit and can be cleaned by homeowner without removing combustion parts, and because AO Smith posts service manuals.

I have a Reliance 501 40 gallon water heater leaking warm water from the valve at the top of the unit. Steady leak. What should we do short term, and is there a part we can get to fix it?

i am not sure if you are talking about a shut off valve or the pressure relief valve. the relief valve should have a pipe from it going down the side of the water heater. if that is the leak the it can be replaced. there should be a little lever on top of it and some times by lifting it and letting a little water flow through, it will stop leaking.

If water is leaking from a pipe. then replace or repair the pipe or fitting. If the leak is coming from the unit itself, then replace the unit. Hope this helps.

Rheem 25 ltr cylinder leaking from top

if it is comming out of the cover , you will need to replace the unit ther is no way to fix the tank,, is it comming out of both the inlet and outlet, if it is just comming out of one wipe it of and look at the threads it could just be the adapter in which case you need to drain it and cut the pipe remove the adapter put teflon tape with pipe thread sealer. put the adapter back on, re attach the pipe, if it still leaks you will have to change the unit, if it is electric make sure you turn it off at the circuit breaker before draining you don;t have to drain it all the way

Lower element leaks between brass and plastic power board

You need to check for a leak from one of the supply lines, if they aren't leaking, then the unit has developed from the tank. If that is the cause, you will have to replace the water heater.

Reliance gas water heater 40 capicity, has a leak on the top

Most likely only one of the pipes is leaking but weaping enough to cover the top and indented places near both inlet and outlet. This leak has most likely penetrated all the insulation and is a problem throughout the tank wrap insulation...If you are able to blow air continuously long enough to determine which connection is leaking then fix it. It will likely to take quite a while to dry out all the insulation if the water has migrated down into the tank wrap... If you determine that the insulation is waterlogged, you may be able to drill several small holes in the external cover.
good luck
