Hey!

It's possible that someone intentionally or mistakenly used your e-mail address.

There's two things that you can do:

1. You can recover the password by clicking on forgot password to try to send a temporary password to your email address. You will be able to see what happened to the account that was created using your email address.

2. Best one is to create a new email address for Twitter.

Hope this helps! :D

My Twitter account was frozen ( they say it was hacked ) and they are requesting a new password. Problem is my old email address ( where they are sending the new password requests ) is expired.

Nothing is working. Help! If you've tried resending the email and you are still having trouble, here are some troubleshooting tips:
  1. Are we sending it to the wrong email address? Double check your Account settings to make sure your email is entered accurately. See any typos? Do we have an old email on file? Make any necessary corrections and click save; we'll send another email if you've updated the address.
  2. Try changing the email address to an email address with a large domain (Gmail, Yahoo, etc.). We tend to have more success delivering emails to those types of domains.
  3. Still need help? Contact us here.
I would suggest keep hitting the button that says 'I didn't get the email'.

I want to keep my twitter account but need to change just the username

Follow these steps to change your username:
  • Log in to Twitter.com and visit your account settings pages from the dropdown menu in the top right corner.

  • On your account settings page, change the username listed in your username field.

  • If the username is taken, you'll be prompted to choose another one.

  • Click Save changes at the bottom of the page.

NOTE: Changing your username will not affect your existing followers, direct messages, or @replies. Your followers will simply see a new username next to your profile photo when you update. We suggest you alert your followers before you change your username so they can direct @replies or direct messages to your new username.

HO W COME WHEN I TRY TO LOG IN TO MY TWIITTER IT TELL ME THAT IS THE WRONG E MAIL THAT IS THE ONLY E MAIL ADDRESS I HAVE

On twitter you can also log in with your twitter user name. You may try that instead of the email address. If you can log in, you should check your settings to make sure your account has not been compromised or that someone has not changed your email address.

There are reports today that some twitter accounts were compromised recently. http://techcrunch.com/2012/11/08/you-might-have-gotten-an-email-from-twitter-about-your-account-being-compromised/

Hope that helps!

How to cancel my twitter account

I'm assuming you're trying to sign up for a new Twitter account with a new email address? Unfortunately Twitter won't allow you to sign up for a new account with the same email address as the old account.
If you're trying with a new email address, it sounds like you have a cookie from Twitter that is "remembering" your old account. Try this: After deactivating your account again, go into your browser settings and delete your cookies. The instructions will vary based on the browser you're using, but below are the instructions for Internet Explorer.

  • Go to Tools - Internet Options. If you don't see Tools, look for a gear icon in the upper-right of your browser window.
  • On the General tab, click Delete.
  • In the window that pops-up, make sure Cookies is checkmarked and click Delete.

How do I delete a twitter account ?

How To Deactivate Your Twitter Account

Deactivating your account permanently removes your profile and information from Twitter. Deactivated profiles will take 30 days to clear from our internal systems. While the deactivation is being completed, usernames or email addresses cannot be used in the creation of a new account. Before you do it, you should know...
  • This is final and permanent.
  • You do not need to deactivate your account to change your username; change it easily and at any time in your account settings.
  • Unless you change your username and email before deactivation, you will not be able to use them on a new account for 30 days.
  • Account restoration is not available at this time.
To deactivate your account:
  1. Log in to Twitter
  2. Click Settings from the drop-down menu at the top right of your Twitter account.
  3. Click 'deactivate my account' at the bottom of the page (shown below).
  4. Enter your password when prompted.
  5. Verify that you really want to do it and voila, it's done.
To free up your username or email address before deactivating your account:
  1. Go to your Settings page from the drop-down menu at the top right of your Twitter account.
  2. In the username field, choose a new username (Try adding an underscore or a number to it).
  3. In the email address field, change your email address to a new address you also own.
  4. Confirm the new email address via a link we send to you (very important!).
  5. Proceed with deactivation as listed above. Your email and username will now be free to use on a new account should you choose to sign up again during the 30 day deactivation period.

Note: we change your settings immediately, and any/all old links appearing in a Google or other search index thus lead to error pages. However, these old links appear because Google and other search engines have cached old content in their search index. Twitter has no control over this, but you can send them a request to take it down.
