Go to the following site... http://www.haywardnet.com/inground/products/manuals.cfm#FiltersSand

Scroll down to the Valves under General Pool/Spa Equipment. Download each of the PDF Dcouments for Valves and find the one that closely matches your design. It will show the position of the different settings.

Just had the spider gasket replaced and now water is "gushing" out the handle

Hi Shari,
I see two possibilities. 1. The diverter shaft o-rings are not sized correctly (or missing). 2. When valve handle was reinstalled it was not oriented properly with the diverter position in valve body.
Hope this helps you.

I have a Hayward High Rate Sand Filter and the controls are unreadable. Can anyone tell me how to determine what location backwash, rinse, etc?

All hayward stickers are replaceable at you local hayward retail store but easy way to know where backwash is usually the bottom of dial usually patent number is at bottom, Filter at 12 o'clock, waste at1 o'clock, backwash at6 o'clock, recirculate at8 o'clock rinse at10 oclock

I have a hayward s166t filter, guage reads 0 and sight glass water does not swirl when backwashed

Does it show pressure when in "Filter" mode?

If not, then your pump is either not primed, Impeller is plugged, or there is not enough water in the pool, you are sucking air.

When filter is set on

The valve on top of the filter has several settings. What is yours set on. If it is set on Backwash or Rinse or Waste, it will allow the pump to send water out the drain. If you have new sand, you probably should run on the Rinse setting for awhile, then switch to Filter.

My filter valve is about 8 years old.(Just FYI) It has been in use for about 3weeks.When the filter is running in filter mode, the backwash line leaks water?? Could it be that it needs a rebuild.Or maybe a...

For best results, replace the spider gasket in your multi port valve (multi port valve, right?) When selecting a mode, only go in a clock wise direction.

Push Pull valve? I dont thnk so but if it is, does not hurt to lube the "o" rings.

My Hayward s166t will no back wash when the control valve is in the backwash position. Just sounds come out of hose and it jumps around. Waste will not work either. Could my control value be broken?

Open the multiport valve and I believe you will find the gasket is no longer effective in compartmenting the various ports. This valve should only be moved in a clockwise direction, by the way. Replace the gasket and reassemble.

Control Valve handle wont stay in position

The valve should be about $100. We sell it for 90 something. You can rebuild them with gaskets and the spring. There should be a model number on yours, care to post it? Something like SP711, SP714, etc.
