Philips mini hi-fi system fwd796 dvd keep restarting

It sounds that the DVD Disc is not loading properly, and does not get seated inside the mechanism. This is purely a mechanical fault. Contact any service technician. The set should have to disassemble to take out the mechanism, and this is a skilled work. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Viewing it in "Mosaic" or "Magazine" will make surf easy. Pull up older posts. Surf the site with patience. Do a search by type in the brand name of your device at its search box and press "Enter".

My dvd player is refusing to play any dvds and just keeps saying 'insert a playable disc'. it was working fine a week ago

Its Laser Pickup Unit has damaged. You have to replace it with same type and number. Insist on same type and number, since Philips have special Laser Heads for their sets. just buy it from Philips Authorised Service center at your town. You have to give them the exact model number of you DVD or take the Pickup unit with you as sample. You have to disassemle the systems' mechanism to take it out. If you have the skill to disassemble and reassambe the DVD mecchanism, you can do it by youreslf at home. Otherwise, get it repaired by any experienced service tecchnician or by authorised service center. OK.

You might try here;
Jimmy's parts
They disassemble overruns and used gear but do warranty the boards. If you try to get it from Philips, lotsa luck- they have essentially abandoned many items to a Japanese company called Funai. Regardless of source other than Jimmy's, you will likely see a price you don't want to pay.

Dvd will not open

Often there is an access hole through which a straightened paper clip can be gently pushed to work the ejection mechanism.
Unfortunately, in consumer products this hole is usually covered by the enclosure. You could try to remove the cover. There are no persistent dangerous voltages in this type of device once it is unplugged. However, even I, with a technical background, would not disassemble the unit unless I intended to scrap it and badly needed the disc. If you plan to have it repaired, let the technician extract the disc.

Front load DVD player will not accept the disk.

Invest in a new DVD will be much simpler, will cost roughly the same amount AND save you the hassle of finding someone to repair the broken drive gear (cog) on the insertion/eject roller (if all else is known to be working). You will find it on the left side of the DVD bay connected to a tiny white worm gear and even smaller reduction gear. If you are handy with a precision hobby mill, you can easily turn a replacement gear out in relatively short order with only the tedious tasks of disassembly and reassembly of the shaft end to deal with. Be certain to unplug and discharge the capacitors in the machine before messing about the inside of the player (UNplug player and press the I/O, "on button," twice). One sturdy knife blade, one standard philips head and one small philips head screwdriver will be all you need for disassembly. If you are capable of opening the chasis and the DVD housing, you will be capable of removing the speed nut from the shaft of the insertion/eject roller and of deciding from there what you should do. Good luck.
