Question about Canon PIXMA MX310 All-In-One Printer

Open Question

Canon MX310 - can print across network but can't scan. Any suggestions? This printer is connected to it's own computer networked to mine via TC/TIP, printer shared, printer server on, everything's great except scanning doesn't work - results in an error: "Cannon communicate with scanner. Cable may be disconnected or scanner may be turned off. Check status. Scanner driver will close." Thank you! Diana

I have a canon pixma MX850. I have connected to my network. Printing works fine. When I go to scan, the printer ask to which computer. I don't understand the question, much less the solution. Ho

Many machines allow network printing but not network scanning. I think you will find that the MX850 driver and MP Navigator software simply does not support network scanning. I suggest you query Canon directly.

Can not conect to wifi

the canon MP170 is not a wifi printer, you need to connect it to a computer via usb, if you have have a second computer on your network you may "share" the printer across the network.this will allow you to print wirelessly to the printer via the connected PC.

Canon MX310 - I'm trying to connect this printer to my network. Currently, I have the printer connected to an Airport Express but when I try to print from my iMac, I get a message that the printer is...

Adkinsdave, keep in mind that often having someone remotely connect to your computer with you and perform this task is easier than trying to walk you through steps and potentially missing a step. With that being said, the Airport Express was meant to make setting up a WiFi network in your own home a breeze.
We need to first determine if your Canon PIXMA MX310 has a Mac driver. According to the Downloads page at Canon.com, there are several Mac drivers available for OS X, 10.5 and 10.6: usa.canon.com - simply choose your OS on the pulldown from that website. Once your computer has the driver it needs to communicate with the printer, you can use your Airport Express to connect to the printer.
Obviously, make sure the printer is turned on and once you go through the Airport Express connect guide you should be printing in no time.
Let us know if there are still issues.

I need help. First, I am a bit computer challenged. I have a Canon MX310 printer that is online with a dell desktop. I have a MAC book that I would like to print from, but I don't know how to initiate...

you are interconnected via ethernet based or wireless network???

(yes) - 'share' the printer and it will be acessible by all devices on your network. Your printer will have to be connected to a PC even if it is network ready for the Mac to use it, I believe.

To 'share' your printer, right click on the printer and select 'share'. It is a simple process.

If you need more help, let me know

I hope this helps you.

Exact same problem as OP

Canon support was able to help me with this issue.

First, scanning with the MF Toolbox is only supported via USB, not across the network (scanning across the network generally does work but you need another application that supports it). Second, you must make sure that you have switched the device into USB scan mode. Press the Scan button on the device. If the display says "Network scanning" press it again until it says USB Scanning. From then on, scanning works beautifully.

Can't connect Xp laptop to 64Bit Vista PC to be able to print across wireless network

yes easy to fix, just share your print driver give it a share name like canonmp780 on the pc it is connected to
then get on your laptop asuming its on your wireless network and in the start bar run this command. \\ your computer name one printer is connected to \ canonmp780.
so if your computer name is windows and your printer name is canonmp780 the run command will be: \\windows\canonmp780 hope this helps and really easiest way to connect to it.

When connected to Airport Express via USB, it will

Airport Express provides only a print server, not a networked usb hub so it can only print. I'm afraid you'll have to go back to wired for scanning.

Can't print to mac wirelessly (could do it a few days ago)

I had the same problem until recently. You have to install the drivers FROM THE CD that came with the printer, instead of selecting the drivers from the default list. Then, when selecting which printer driver to use (you'll have two options) choose Canon IJ and NOT Canon MX310 series. This is a problem with their MX310 driver, which is solved using a default/generic Canon InkJet (hence, the IJ) driver. Hope this helps!
P.S. This only works on Mac OS X. I have yet to figure out how to print wirelessly through Vista. Will keep you posted.
