I used to fix tellies back in the 80's so I have worked around electronics. where can I find the D board and do you have a schematic?

  • dlgorman Sep 09, 2010

Do you have a schematic I can download?

  • dlgorman Sep 09, 2010

is there a difference in chips between the Sanyo and the Sony? the Sanyo is cheaper

  • dlgorman Sep 10, 2010

ok, I ordered the chips. I'll replace and see what happens...thanks

  • dlgorman Sep 19, 2010

ok, enclosed is how the screen looks...thanks

  • dlgorman Sep 20, 2010

checked voltages on each pin of each chip and looked to be the same values as on the schematic. what can I check next?

  • dlgorman Sep 21, 2010

one thing I noticed was that some voltages that were supposed to be -.2 v were positive voltages like .1 or .2 volts

  • dlgorman Sep 21, 2010

I don't think the change was that large. I would measure .1v, but on the schematic it was showing -.2v. would that be a problem?

  • dlgorman Sep 22, 2010

unsoldered one end of each resistor (4.7 ohm), all checked ok

  • dlgorman Sep 22, 2010

unsoldered one end of each or the 4.7 ohm resistors. using an ohmmeter, all checked good

  • dlgorman Sep 22, 2010

unsoldered one end of each resistor and checked resistance with and ohmeter. all check ok with 4.7 ohms.

  • dlgorman Sep 22, 2010

should I check voltages around the circuit or am I looking at a chip replacement?

  • dlgorman Sep 22, 2010

Sorry-just trying to clarify- Is the convergence processing circuit still on the D board...thanks

  • dlgorman Sep 22, 2010

is it easier to buy a new bd than to t-shoot...thanks

  • dlgorman Sep 23, 2010

replaced the BD board but the picture still looks the same

Hi,
This kind of symptom appears when convergence output chips got failed in tv as there are two convergence output chips are mounted on D Board of tv that need to be replaced to get back correct and converge picture.
Let me know if you can replace parts in tv circuit board to provide you more technical info or local tv repair shop will help you to replace bad parts in tv.
Thanks.

You can replace defective convergence output chips on D board instead of replacement of complete D board to reduce repair cost.
IC number is STK392-020 and circuit board location number are IC5005 and IC5006
Required IC is available in Part Store
Click above link for price info
I'm Sony tech and I do have schematics
    Thanks.

    Shahid Electronics Sep 09, 2010

No difference in chips with different brand names, its just manufacturing cost matters.
You can use any brand chip that you think is better but STK392-020 number should be same.

Great, chips replacement will solve your tv issue.
    Thanks.

  • dlgorman Sep 15, 2010

replaced the chips, the picture looks the same, Can I upload a picture to you?

  • Shahid Electronics
    Shahid Electronics Sep 15, 2010

Yes, you can upload picture in this thread and file size should be under 150K JPG
Check pico fuses nearby convergence output ICs as any one could be open/ blown.

  • dlgorman Sep 16, 2010

what do the pico fuses look like? do you have their schematic number?

what do the pico fuses look like, what are their schematic number? I have a picture but don;t know where to upload it

  • dlgorman Sep 18, 2010

I'm thinking the pico fuses are ps5001 to ps5008? the 6 fuses around the convergence chips do check good for short. I have a picture to show. where can I upload?...thanks

  • Shahid Electronics
    Shahid Electronics Sep 18, 2010

You can upload picture up to 150K size JPG by clicking Picture link at bottom of comments typing box.
If all 6 pico fuses found OK then check +/- volts supplies to STK chips, these volts are coming from power supply board.

  • dlgorman Sep 19, 2010

ok, I'll check voltages. don't see the link in the comment box. i'm thinking my browser may have it disabled

I hope this image will give a better idea to post/ upload picture in question thread.

  • dlgorman Sep 19, 2010

picture is posted, please let me know if this is still a convergence issue...thanks

  • Shahid Electronics
    Shahid Electronics Sep 19, 2010

    Yes, it is convergence issue.

  • Shahid Electronics
    Shahid Electronics Sep 21, 2010

Please check big resistors (1 Watt or so) near convergence chips area and replace them with exact same value if their color is faded or looks heated up.
Now having .1V or .2V instead of -2V is due to wrong feedback/ reference signal in convergence process that is why picture is distorted, once feedback is good, picture will be good and you will get -2V on related pins.

  • Shahid Electronics
    Shahid Electronics Sep 21, 2010

As I explain before, check big resistors near convergence output chips and replace that seems bad.

  • Shahid Electronics
    Shahid Electronics Sep 22, 2010

OK, resistors are good then convergence signal processor circuit would be in problem. Just follow convergence output chips drive lines that will take you convergence processing circuit.

  • Shahid Electronics
    Shahid Electronics Sep 22, 2010

    I just replied that question.

  • Shahid Electronics
    Shahid Electronics Sep 22, 2010

Its BD Bord, check page-121 of schematics, BD board is convergence signal processor that drives convergence output chips.
    Thanks

  • Shahid Electronics
    Shahid Electronics Sep 22, 2010

Yes, go to part list of service manual and get part number of BD Board part number and search on Google to find out better prices.
    Thanks

    Good

  • Shahid Electronics
    Shahid Electronics Sep 30, 2010

OK, tv needs physical presence of technician to test boards performance by swapping in similar model, I'm afraid it is beyond to diagnose over internet.
    Thanks.

HI:
Your problem is the blue CRT or picture has gone bad, you will need to have the picture replaced, there are three tubes in this model rear projection television. Red, Green, and Blue. Replaceing the blue tube is the only option for normal operation to resume. It may be hard to find the tube, but you can try contacting this website for the part www.vdc.com, they manufacture and usually have stocks of sony picture tubes and rebuilt ones as well. You have a completely different problem. The screen voltage for the blue picture tube is slightly too high on your set. This will put fine lines in the background of the picture, called retrace lines. This is very common and easy to correct. Remove the front speaker cover and the access panel behind it. Look inside and you will see a black box with six controls, each control having a little white glue on it. This is the Focus/Screen block. Three controls are labeled Focus and three are labeled Screen. The screen control in the center is for green but I am not sure if the screen control on the left or right is for blue for your model. With the TV on, set it to VIDEO 1 but do not connect anything to the VIDEO 1 jacks. This will produce a pure dark picture, showing any faint lines in the background. Choose one of the screen controls and increase (turn clockwise) it slightly. If the blue lines do not get brighter it means you are turning the red screen control, so put it back where it was and choose the other screen control. When you find the blue screen control, decrease (turn counter-clockwise) it until just when the blue lines are gone. If you want you can check that the red and green screen controls are set to just below the point where their faint lines are visible. When done, replace the panels and your picture will be back to perfect.

MikeNJ1964 was exactly right! I have a Sony KP-65WV600 that had horizontal green lines that showed when the picture was darker. I had to remove 3 screws on the right and left side of the tv holding in the speakers...carefully pop out the middle panel from the clips holding it in....remove 4 screws from the cardboard in the middle and remove the cardboard. I then saw the six screws. The adjustment screws were the three below. I turned the middle screw until the lines dissapeared. I tried the left screw and blue lines appeared which I then adjusted away.
THANKS a bunch. SAVED me money!!!

your convergence IC;s are out, they cost about $40, if you know how to solder, you can do it your self, if not , I would try to find somone that can, service centers charge about 4 or 5 hundred, after you get the new ones, there easy to find on the board in the back of the tv

Yes you have bad green and red crt but with an adjustment you can still use it. remove the front panel and you'll see the focus pack (it;s a black piece with 6 rotating knobs on it. Adjust clock otherwise the red and green screen (the bottom line knobs) till the lines has gone. The better way to check it is to adujt in video input with no signal, just black screen.

I got this Sony KP-57WS500 57 in TV for FREE from a guy posting it on craigslist because he saw "BLUE SWIRL LINES" also knows as "Retrace Line" on the screen and he went to several repair people and got high repair costs so he was giving it away for free, but i found a guide that tells you how to adjust the tv to make the blue or green or red lines go away, aparantly the line show up because the voltage on the color ray gun tubes that get out of adjustment. Here is the Link to the REPAIR GUIDE. http://www.somelifeblog.com/2007/06/sony-projection-tv-red-line-repair.html

Sony KP-57WS500 Pictures problem

Your Convergence Correction Amplifier ICs have gone bad (STK329-110) They must be replaced along with the biasing resistors

www.electronix.com has the parts you will need plus I would suggest that you have a qualified TV repair person do the installation for you.

Make sure the traces on the circuitboard are good and that the solder connections are good.

But the ICs and resistors need to be replaced.

Thank you,
