How do I free up the feed dogs?

You can try this:
1. Remove needle plate
2. Manually hold up the feed dogs with your left hand
3. While they are up turn the hand wheel a couple of times
They may click back into place.

I have been sewing all morning. Suddenly the fabric does not feed everything is clean

Look at the feed dogs to see if they are rising above the needle plate at least 1 mm. If not rising lint may have felted between the feed dogs and the needle plate. It could also be the feed dogs have been lowered, or the height has slipped. If the feed dogs are above the needle plate turn the hand wheel and see if they are moving from the front of the machine to the back. If not it is a length adjustment. If this is normal the pressure on the fabric may be too low. Another problem may be the timing of the feed dogs. The feed dogs should rise above the needle plate when the needle leaves the fabric and descend when the needle comes down into the fabric. This requires an expert to fix.

Problem with feed dogs and thread catching

Hello Emma,

Hope this helps.
When the feed dogs are lowered they will not go up with just the switch. Try this, move the feed dog switch to the up position, then turn the handwheel 1 complete rotation. Voila they should be up. Let me know if it is solved. Chris

I dropped the feed dogs and they won't come back up.

Ignore all the other comments, they are wrong.
The feed dogs are driven by the feed driver mechanism, turn the hand-wheel forward and the feed dogs will come up. (Providing you have the feed dog switch to the up position).

Need to remove needle plate

Remove the presser foot and needle. Press the feed-dog drop button on the right-hand end of the machine, so that the feed-dogs drop below the needle plate. Press the back right-hand-side of the needle plate firmly and the front left side should pop up. You can then lift the plate out to clean underneath etc. When replacing, put the hole in the plate over the locating lug at the front-right corner and make sure the right-hand-side of the plate is down first, before pressing the left-hand side down into the grey surround. Be careful not to use excess force if it wont go, otherwise you could break the retaining spring. When done, dont forget to press the feed-dog drop button again and rotate the handwheel once, so that the feed-dogs come back up again.'

Hope that helps

Feed dogs will not raise, I have lifted the presser foot, pushed the feed dog lever to the raised positon and turned the handwheel till i heard the click. They still will not snap into place in the raissed...

Hello

First, lift the presser foot; next, push the feed dog lever to the raised position; finally, turn the handwheel towards you until you hear the feed dogs snap into place

If it doesn't, you will have to run a maintenance check on your feed dogs,

Unplug the machine and examine the feed dogs. The newer machines have metal feed dogs, but older models may have rubber ones, which often need replacing. Examine the feed dogs and check for damage.

Remove the throat plate, which is the covering over the feed dogs, and clean it with a soft cloth. Use a small soft brush to clean the feed dogs. Make sure to remove all lint and thread from the grooves of the teeth. Some machines have an adjustment that lowers the feed dogs for specific sewing procedures. They should be in the raised position for better viewing during the cleaning process.

Clean the area around the feed dogs with a soft brush. Compressed air is a good choice to use in the small tight areas.

Wipe down all areas with a clean, lint free cloth before replacing the throat plate.

Prepare to clean the feed dogs and all other areas that lint may accumulate on, after every project. Your sewing machine will last longer and need fewer repairs if kept clean and lint free.

Always unplug the sewing machine before any type of maintenance or cleaning.

Never use a sharp tool when cleaning the feed dogs as this may cause damage to the sewing machine.

I took my maching apart to clean the lint out and when I put it back to together the needle is hitting the feed dogs. what could be causing this!

most likely the bobbin case is not aligned correctly .Insert the bobbin case so that the projection on the boobin case aligns with the spring.

Feed Dog problem

Here are some common reasons that the fabric won't feed:
1. Stitch length is set to zero, or machine is in button hole setting
2. Feed dogs are dropped (free motion setting)
3. Broken gears (typically in old singers)
4. Presser bar not coming down - may be bound up.
5. Lots of lint under the needle plate (in between the feed dogs) preventing feed dogs from raising.

Hope this helps.

Feed dog wont feed the fabric

Remove the needleplate and clean between the teeth of the feeddogs.
Ensure the feeddogs are not lowered for free motion sewing.
Don't know the make/model to be any more specific, so post back here or to the Contact Us page at  www.bargainbox.com.au if there is more to do.
