Question about LG 42LC2D 42 in. LCD HDTV

3 Answers

My model number is 42LC7D-UB. The main board went out so I bought a new one. The old part number was LA73E EAX35607004(0). I found a cheaper one on Ebay with the model number LA73E EAX35607006(2). I was told this one would still work so I ordered it. After installing it my TV still doesn't work. It's made an improvement from before though. Before it would turn on for about 3 seconds then just turn off by itself. Now it stays powered on but there is no picture or sound. I heard sometimes you have to update the software so I tried that but the USB input in the back is not getting any power so nothing happens. I'm afraid the part number may need to be exact. Is that correct?

I can't find anywhere to type in a model number. Are you saying I should search to see if it tells me if they're compatible? I tried contacting LG and the guy said he thought it should work but when I asked him for any help he just told me I need to take it to an authorized service center.

  • deanlemmon Sep 08, 2010

Also I just noticed that I posted this under 42LC2D but I actually have a 42LC7D. Hope that doesn't make too big of a difference

  • deanlemmon Sep 09, 2010

Do I need to get the exact part number or is there a different problem?

  • deanlemmon Sep 09, 2010

So are you suggesting that I need to order this part or try to fix it?

  • deanlemmon Sep 09, 2010

I replaced the power board first but nothing changed at all so then I tried the main board. This is a slight improvement; before I replaced the main board the TV would turn on for about 3 seconds then just automatically shut itself off.

  • deanlemmon Sep 09, 2010

So should I try to get the exact part number or is there anything else you suggest I try?

  • deanlemmon Sep 09, 2010

I'm not too familiar with this sort of thing, can you give me some sort of idea which part that is?

  • deanlemmon Sep 09, 2010

Is the low voltage power supply and the power supply board the same thing?

  • deanlemmon Sep 09, 2010

Ok I understand that. What I don't understand is which part of the TV is the "low voltage power supply." If it's the same thing as the power supply board then I already replaced that and I got the exact part number. It's the main pc/tuner board that the part number was slightly off.

  • deanlemmon Sep 09, 2010

Oh ok thanks. I'll check it out and get back to you

  • deanlemmon Sep 09, 2010

Well I don't really have any idea what I'm looking for. I unscrewed it and took it out but there doesn't appear to be any way to take it apart further. I'm guessing I'm going to need some way to test the voltage or something like that. Any suggestions?

    Ok thank you!

  • deanlemmon Oct 25, 2010

Yes I did. The only thing wrong was the cable that goes from the main board to the power supply board was bad. I changed that and it works great.

Yes absolutely! The part number must be exactly the same. Different part number indicates a different version of the same board.

Sounds like a main board Y sus board or a power board or power inverter problem.

  • Nate Stansfield

It sounds like the low voltage
power supply has crashed. Since the set is essentially dead, this would be the first place to look.

    Nate Stansfield Sep 09, 2010

You will need the exact same part number for that to work correctly. Partstore.com or shop jimmy should have it.

Each and every component has it's own part number. Either it is imprinted and on the part itself or on the circuit board directly next to that component.

  • Nate Stansfield
    Nate Stansfield Sep 09, 2010

It is the little box that is directly connected to the power cord. Some may have resistors that control the power flow.

    Sounds good.

  • Nate Stansfield
    Nate Stansfield Sep 09, 2010

Not a problem. Oh, and on the back of the tv there should be a lable. Some are imprinted. Itshould say the DC Voltage Output. That voltage reading should match your volt tester if you decide to test it. Thanks.

LG 42LC7D-UB after few minutes the sound goes off and channel change by itself

When heats up, the supply voltage from the main power supply board goes less. Check all the soldering to this board for any loose solder terminals. Resolder all the suspected solder terminals by applying a little more solder. If it do not help you, replace the board as card basis.

There are a couple of boards that have different part numbers. You'll have to match the part# with yours. It maybe out of stock, but click on it. Then click on "find other products with this part number". Then all the main boards show up with that part number. A couple of them should be should be in stock.

Cuts off

Most likely the power supply board.

Lie the tv down on a bed and unscrew the back. Its only about 9 screws around the edge and look at the power board, on the left, see if theres any burn marks.

I have a brand new board I bought the other day for the same issue but before I replaced it, stupidly, I checked with LG and turns out mine is still under warranty so I'm stuck with a new board.

Let me know if you want it. I'll match any price you can find online.
