Of course the screen is clean - no dust or deposits, you made sure of that.
I'm assuming that this lowering of the image quality is observable whatever it's displayed from the screen and whatever the source. In that case it appears that either the CCFL tubes or the inverter board powering them are nearing their life's end. In that case you must open the tv and check the voltages on the inverter board, the aged parts (capacitors mainly) will be easy to replace. If the voltages are ok then you will need new tubes - the only way you can find them is to order them at an authorised repair shop or a dealer - take the tv to them.
