Question about Kodak EasyShare M530 Digital Camera

2 Answers

My kodak easyshare m530 will not turn on. I push the button and it lights up and immediately goes off again. The zoom isn't even opening or pulling out. I figured the battery was dead so i tried to charge it and it won't charge either. could it be that i need a new battery for the inside?

Hello

The problem is that the lens has become stuck in the barrel. There are some DIY solutions you could try, but the probability is that you will have to get it fixed by a professional.

Use these at own risk as it may further damage the camera.

Firstly , try connecting your ac adapter or usb cable.

Try holding the shutter button while switching on the camera.

Look at the lens , and if some of the lens 'circles' is misaligned or not concentric then try wiggling it (while holding camera lens down).

Try gently pushing or pulling the lens when it extends but this is risky as it may cause the lens barrel to slip out of its guidance system.

Another way to do this is to place the camera lens down on a hard surface and then power it up. Be sure to use a soft cloth or something similar as to not scratch your lens or casing. Let the lens push the camera up and down a few times and sometimes the little resistance provided by the camera is enough to get things going again.

Try hitting your camera near the lens on the body with the soft tissue on the palm of your hand.

Other than that , I would take the camera to a repair center for a evaluation to see if it would cost more to repair than to replace the camera.

If it is still under warranty I would suggest you take it in before trying any of these steps and remove any off-brand batteries or accessories as some stores are really fussy about warranty repairs on camera's with non-brand accessories.

Hope the advise is useful. Please do not hesitate to let me know if you need any further assistance.

Regards
Andrea

I ran into this problem with easy share m530, I couldnt charge it through the USB on my computer, I remembered it came with a very small wall USB adpater, once I plugged the same USB cord I used in the computer in the Kodak little wall usb adapter it started charging like it should, and all problems fixed, Im thinking USB charging on a computer is sketchy at best, or does not work.. It would not charge on 3 diff computers of mine till I charged it with the kodak usb wall charger/adapter

When you push the power button, the lens comes out and then immediately turns off again.

Alicynkiefer,

I can't be positive without seeing the camera, but what you are describing sounds a lot like a depleted battery. Try charging the battery, and if that still doesn't work, it may need replacement.

Thank you.

Turning camera on

Take it back to where you got it or send it to Kodak because this should be a warranty issue. I repair these camera's all the time and it should like 1 of 2 things main controller is not making proper connection or a cold solder joint and the connection is intermediately connection making it work once in a while I hope this help you decide on what to do.
