Question about Dell Inspiron 1300 Notebook

2 Answers

A Dell laptop was found and still in working order. Windows XP is installed on it. How can I reboot to original copy as I am being told on machine that there is likely a copy on machine and not the original. This needs to be taken care of to exclude information of party it belonged to and husband, who is not a computer friendly person is looking to use this to learn on. This also includes the web. Can you help? We hate to throw something away that works.

If I understand the question correctly, you wish to reset the computer to it's original factory condition? If so, you may be able to use the hidden restore partition on the hard drive to accomplish this. Power the laptop on and after the Dell logo shows up, begin pressing Ctrl-F11 (hold down Ctrl key and tap F11 key) until you enter the system restore program. If this does not work, you may need to get a copy of the System restore cd. You can find it here:

I have done this on Dells but not sure of your exact model if this will work

Press the F8 key at startup
Choose "Repair Your Computer"
Choose keyboard layout
Enter your user name and password (Admin is disabled if you've created a user)
Choose "Dell factory image restore"
Choose Next
Tick box to reformat and restore to factory condition.

May work

Hi, I installed the old win xp to my new dell inspiron m5030 which comes with windows 7 home premium. Now I want to reistall its original windows 7 but I need keys functions to do that. How can you help...

Glad to HELP YOU!

#Just check first if you still have on your hard drive a partition called FACTORY IMAGE or RESCUE IMAGE or whatever. If is still there, you're saved.
Just reboot and during the booting screen read carefully the indications written there. It should be the F10 or the F11 or the F12 key for reverting your system to its original factory settings.

#If you DON'T HAVE that partition, I assume that you have a RESCUE DISK or an INSTALLATION DISK that came together with your machine.
Insert the disk [CD or DVD] and reboot and choose RESTORE SYSTEM.
But if you don't have [or you didn't make...] the RECOVERY DISKS and assuming your machine is under a warranty license - then you can ask DELL to send you that disk FOR FREE. But if the warranty is no longer valid, you can order the disks HERE. It will cost you ~$30 plus the shipping.

GOOD LUCK!

I have reinstalled Windows xp on my Laptop 6400 inspiron and now I have no audio. I have check Control Panel and it says no audio device is installed. I have tried to download Sigmatel from the Dell...

i believe the audio device for this model is located on the modem bus.
if you install the modem driver first then the machine should display the "found new hardware" wizard. DONT USE THIS.
ignore the wizard and proceed with the sound driver install then reboot the machine.
that should work providing you have installed the drivers in the correct order

DELL Inspiron disk failure how to recover OS in new hard disk?

Hello,

Unfortunately you will need the restore disk to correct this problem. Even if you copy the old disk to the new, chances are you will copy the corrupt files and have TWO bad copies of xp. You can order the restore disk from Dell on average about $30.

Good Luck

Reboot

To Reboot a computer is to turn it off, wait at least 20 seconds, then turn it back on.

A.If you're thinking of Reboot, as to reinstall the Operating System, you use a Restoration Disk, (sometimes listed as Recovery Disk), insert it in your CD/DVD drive, and restart your computer.
(Just press the CTRL, ALT and Delete keys AT THE SAME TIME.
Not shouting. Windows XP and Windows Vista are examples of an Operating System)

B.If you're trying to install an Operating System, from a CD disk that you bought, I suggest you go into BIOS Setup, and in Boot Order, change the first boot device to CDROM. Insert the CD disk in your CD/DVD drive, and restart the computer.

If you buy a Full Installation CD disk, as listed above, you have to change the Boot Order.
For example:
1.You have Windows XP on your computer now. It has problems, and doesn't work correctly. Instead of getting the Restoration Disk from your computer manufacturer, you decided to just buy a genuine copy of Windows XP, and install it. (This is a Full Installation Disk)

The Windows XP you have installed now, will not let the one you bought install over it, by just putting the disk in the drive. Change the first boot device, in Boot Order to CDROM, and it will. The Windows XP you have now, will 'see' the Windows XP you're trying to install, as just the same version. You have to install a better version of Windows, in order for it to write over what is installed.
Such as Windows Vista.

2.You have Windows Vista on your computer, and are not happy with it. You would like to put Windows XP on instead. Windows XP is considered a lesser version, and Vista won't let it write over it.
Go to BIOS Setup, change the first boot device in Boot Order, to CDROM, and it will.

Hi Vostro owner.Dont worry, this can be sorted.Sound issue is not because u installed windows from a Non-dell cd.But i would ask to call up dell because they will provide u the XP disc that should have come with the system or even it is lost from you. Also then we can download the driver from support site : www.support.dell.com and install it.It is just a mere coincidence now.But the reason i'm asking to get cd from Dell is so that u can avoid any future problems with installing XP from a non-dell cd

Can't connect to internet through wireless

Go to a working computer (beg borrow or steal) and download the drivers for your model laptop from the DELL WEB site (suggest you insert your Service Tag to get the correct drivers for your model laptop), copy it to a CD or USB memory stick and then install them on your computer.
Don't forget to activate your XP license and also install SP3 (Service Pack 3 it's approx. 350Mb in size).

Rebooting my Dell Inspiron 6000 Laptop

rebooting a laptop means turning it off then on again not to it's original state, your are using a recovery disc which will reformat your drive the reinstall windows, loosing any documents or files you have saved.

The serial or product key code for windows is always on the underside of the laptop

Video/sound problem

When you say Reboot, I assume you mean re-install Windows XP. Many issues can occur if you do not install the drivers properly after installing Windows. The proper order is as Follows:

Notebook System Software
Chipset Utility
Video Driver
Audio Driver
Network Driver
Wireless Driver
Touchpad Driver

Also after installing Windows and the drivers, you'll need to go to Java.com and install Java, then adobe.com and install the latest Flash and Shockwave Players.

It is also recommended that you have the latest BIOS flash of the system. The current bios version is A09

Sony vaio motion eye

Windows Vista is not the greatest at working on proprietary machines with drivers intended for XP. Can you get a driver from SONY for the motion eye that supports VISTA? I had Vista on my new machine (Dell) for all of 3 minutes before I uninstalled it and put a brand new copy of XP on. It's stable -- and works. Vista is squirrelly.
