Goto the website
and download the selected firmware for the ipod touch model you have. if your unsure if the model / type you can goto
and type in the last 3 numbers of your serial number to find out

if you want to downgrade or upgrade, choose the firmware you want to downgrade to, then go to itunes and shift-click on restore and choose the firmware you want to change to. this will restore your ipod touch

Hi how can i fix my ipod and it says ipod disabled and connect to itunes and when i connect it to my computer it says i cant restore it

Have you tried a hard-reset of the iPod Touch by pressing and holding both the top and home buttons down until the unit shuts-off?

While holding the buttons down, ignore the prompt to slide to turn-off -- just keep holding both buttons until the unit goes black. After that, release the buttons and press them both briefly again to start up.

Hopefully this will allow the iPod Touch to be restored.

Ipod 4th gen showing music on pc but not on ipod

From the apple website:

"If you are experiencing these errors, begin by updating to the latest version of iTunes. When you have the current version of iTunes, try the following:
  • Disconnect and reconnect your iPod and then attempt to restore.
  • Restart your computer and then attempt to restore your iPod.
  • Disable or Enable Disk Use on your iPod and then attempt to restore.
  • Try connecting your iPod to a different USB port and then attempt to restore.
  • Remove any third-party USB devices you have connected to your computer (it is not necessary to remove your keyboard or mouse).
  • If you use Windows, re-register .dll files as described in article iTunes displays -50 error message when syncing iPod on Windows XP
  • For Windows users, update or reinstall your Windows USB drivers."

If this doesn't fix it, it might be a logic board issue or hard drive issue.

Ipod cannot be restored unknown error has occured?

I have had some success with this problem, so far i have fixed 9 out of 20 with the method i'm going to explain. First off without knowing what generation Ipod you have or what version software your running, i'm going to give the the general idea. your going to go to you-tube and search for "How to jailbreak your Ipod touch @@@@@@" were @@@@@ is your generation Ipod ie;(1st or 2nd gen.) Now you will follow the instructions in the video and keep your fingers crossed that it works. From what i can figure out, something happens to the programming on the touch that gets weirded out and wont allow it to be restored via itunes. By jail breaking it you will basically reprogram the touch with the jail-broken software which has been written in a different way. If you are able to jailbreak it, then you should be able to then hook it up let itunes recognize it and then restore it. Like i said it's worked 9 out of 20 times for me so far, let me know if i can start saying 10 of 20 :) Cali

How do i get the lock code off my Ipod touch if it says i have to go to itunes first?

by lock code to my understanding you mean the code that keeps people out of your ipod. Well if this is what you mean, you will need to restore your ipod. If it doesnt go away after you connect it to the pc then restore is the only way. OR, jailbreak it but i dont recommend it. I jailbroke my itouch 2nd gen, and it was AWESOME but it voids your warranty and because mine was second the time they didnt have goo firmware so it messed up and i had to restore it. But hopefully this helps.

My ipod is frozen

Warning: This should be used as a last resort, restoring will erase all of your data

*Must have iPod plugged into computer while doing this*

Be patient, the force restore part may take up to 20 seconds.

1. Press and hold the home button and the sleep/wake button. (the power off option will appear, ignore it)
2. When the apple logo appears let go of the sleep/wake button (keep holding the home button.)
3. After a few seconds you should see the connect to iTunes image (you can now let go of the home button.)
4. Open iTunes .
5. iTunes should automatically recognize your iPod once the image comes up, if not unplug your iPod and plug it back in.
6. Restore your iPod by clicking the "Restore" button.

If iTunes comes up with an error you may want to try

a. Uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes or
b. restoring on a different compute
