On the rear of the motor unit near where all those white wires go you will see a small light. See if it is sending a code. If so, it will flash and pause and repeat. If you have had electrical storms or power surges you will need to check the logic board for burnt or missing traces on the printed circuit.

The light by the learn button may be sending a diagnostic code. See if it is flashing a number of times, pausing and then repeating. Count the flashes. Is your door stuck in the open posititon?

I have Garage Door Opener from Sears. Wall push button & the the remote from my car open the door OK , but it does not close the door from my car (which is programmed) Wall push button close the door...

If the main light flashes 10 times when the door reverses to the open position it is a door sensor problem. Make sure the sensors are pointed at one another and the small light on each one is lit and not flickering. Tweak them a bit. If you cannot get both lights to come on you have bad sensors.

How to set garage door opener

Hi,

Find where the antenna comes out of the garage door opener motor and look for either a learn button or a set of switches. (You may need to remove the lens cover from the motor head). If the antenna is not found, look for a wall-mounted external receiver with antenna. It should also have a removable cover.

To program using the learn function, push the learn button on the garage door opener motor. An indicator light should turn on and glow steadily. You now have 30 seconds.

Press and hold the corresponding learn button on the remote. Stop once the motor light blinks instead of remaining solid.

To program a switch-type opener, again take the cover off of the motor unit or wall mounted receiver (wherever the antenna is located). You should see either 8, 9, or even 12 switches that may have two or three positions each.

Open the battery cover on your remote to locate the remote switches. For every switch on the motor, set the remote switch to the exact same position. Open = Off / Closed = On. This is where the pen or small screwdriver may come in handy for moving the switches.

Close the battery cover and test the opener. If all switches match, it should work immediately.

I hope this helps.

Good luck.

1/3 hp liftmaster professional.....wall button pushed.....makes running noise and light comes on.....no door movement

Remove the cover from the motor unit. I'm sure you will find white sawdust all over and the drive gear will be stripped. It is a white nylon gear just in front of the motor. The part number is 41A2817 and comes with instructions. It is available at any door opener service company.

Garage door will not close, moves 2 ft & returns

Make sure you put the black cup back onthe end of the motor shaft and that it is pressed all the way on.Make sure the RPM sensor is plugged in. If neither of these are theissue, then you probably did not have the motor shaft pushed all theway back when you tightened the coupler after replacing the wormgear. Loosen that coupler up and from the front of the motor(opposite end in which the coupler is on) push the shaft back as faras it will go. Hold it there while you tighten the coupler back upand then try it.

Craftsman Garage Door Opener won't work after storm

Check to see if the trolley (the part that slides back and forth on the rail and is connected to the door) is jammed against the bolt just in front of the motor unit. If so, remove the bolt and run the door until it is closed. On the side of the motor unit there is an 'up limit' control. Turn this 3 turns in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover. Be sure to replace the bolt.

Drive Motor Will Not Operate

It sounds like the wiring to the wall control is shorting or the wall control itself is bad. You can do a process of elimination by first removing the wires from the back of the wall control to eliminate it and then by removing the wire from terminal 1 on the rear of the motor unit to eliminate the wiring. Make sure you remember which wire goes where on the wall control. They are color coded.

Door opener activates itself--don't know how to correct it.

Anytime a door opens and/or closes by itself I look for a smashed wire between the motor unit and the wall button.

If the wire is smashed the insulation becomes so thin that power will leak thru the insulation and activate the door.

Loosen the staples with a small screwdriver and slide the wire about ½ inch to move any areas of thin insulation away from the staples.

The second thing would be a bad wall button or a remote with a sticking button.
Or a remote in someone’s purse that gets the button pushed by other stuff in the purse.

The test is to disconnect the push button wires at the power unit. If the self operation stops you have located the problem. If you reconnect the wires and disconnect the wire at the wall button this will tell you if the problem is the wire or the button.

HOPE THIS HELPS
