The lid clips - if I understand you correctly - do not need to be accessed - you merely pry the front of the lid up by slipping a screw driver between the lid and the front panel - near the corners. The top will lift out of the clips and lift up - hinged at the rear of the dryer. I don't know the MGD6000AWW in particular, but there are many dryer belt repair videos to look at - all of which require that the top lid be removed. Have a look at these videos to get an idea of what I'm describing.

Good luck!

There are no lid clips on this dryer. After trying a number of different things, I found that the front of the dryer comes off by removing the door and two screws on the door frame. The top is secured down with two hooks that have to unscrewed once you get the front panel off.

I'm glad you got it figured out. I've done more than a few dryer belts (but as I said above - not your model in particular) and not seen that type of dis-assembly. Hopefully you were able to scan through the videos and found a dryer that looked like yours to see how it was done.

How do you open the lid? belts are squeaking

Number 3 is a spring clip. Use a putty knife to release em like this:
Innards look like this:themobilian_2704.jpg
Use Zoomspout oil to kill them squeaky noises. Remove the rollers and shine up the shafts with sand cloth. then oil em and put it back together. You need to sit the dryer on a table to get the belt back on. Doing it on the floor is tough.

Cannot open the lid on a maytag dryer (1999 model year, model # MDE6000AYQ) as it doesnt appear to have the plastic little tabs, as some others i have seen done online? as i need to replace the belt....

Here is how to remove the front and the top.

-Open the door, remove the 4 screws, (2 from the hinges and 2 from the open side of the door that are opposite the hinges)

- Pull on the front top of the front panel from both sides it will release and then lift the entire front panel off

- you may be able to get to the belt from here, but if not remove the two screws close to the top that hold the green clips from the front to the top and remove the green clips The top should be free

-lift the door off the frame and set aside.

- you should be able to see how the rest comes apart from there

Lifting cover of dryer to fix loose baffle.

Usually their are two sheet metal screws to remove at the top rear of the washer lid/body,,,you must remove these,,,then remove any little brackets(some washers have little brackets which hold the top down) then you should be able to pry the top up with a screw driver,,,pry gently,,,if it will come at all,,it will come,,,but if it feels solid,,check for more points to remove screws.

Maytag Gas Dryer: heat. We've diconnected the vent...still no heat...I took off the front panel...but don't know what to do from there. My cousin is electrician...but he doesn't...

Sounds like it is the Thermal Fuse. If the air flow in the dryer is restricted, the temperature in the heating chamber can get hot enough to blow the thermal fuse. If the fuse blows, it cuts power to the coils that control the gas valve. The fuse is usually mounted to the exhaust duct just inside the back panel.
But it could be a number of other things too ... like faulty door switch or bad gas igniter...
Take a look at thsi link for your machine ... it provides a number of reasons and some good videos
Good luck on your troubleshooting!
