Question about Ryobi 18V Hedge Trimmer

1 Answer

Can I get my Ryobi Hedgetrimmer blades sharpened or replaced ? Its only 2 years old and blunt already, it struggles to cut conifer and tears rather than cuts. I am not impressed.

If the blade set is bolted together, then a local repair shop should be able to sharpen them. Look for a shop that works on Echo or Stihl hedgers, as they can be sharpened. If the blade set is riveted together, then it must be replaced as a unit. You did not list the model or item number for your hedger, but try www.ereplacementparts.com or www.ordertree.com . Both sites will allow you to type in your model or item number to look up all the available parts.
Good luck!

Our C220c shredder does not shred, motor turns and blades turn but i think the blades are blunt. Can you get new ones or have the old blades sharpened?

There are 2 shafts that have the cutting blades on them and they both should turn. I have replaced many gears on this model and suspect that a gear is broken. Fellowes does not have many parts this model anymore. I would call a local shredder repair service or you can call Fellowes at 800-955-0959.

Yep as simple as that just make sure they are a well recignised sharpener otherwise you will waste your money. You can rule out a clipper problem if other blades cut ok. Clipper Blade Sharpening

I have just had all the blades sharpened for my clippers but they won't cut my dog's fur. Never had a problem before. Can you please help?

It is common to that a Blade Sharpening Service return your blades just as blunt as before, or even worse.
I advise that you try a new Blade Sharpening Service; trying out only a couple blades to begin with.
I recommend a mobile/on-site sharpening service.

I have a Flymo Sabre cordless hedgetrimmer, which has stopped cutting anything although the blades still move. What can I do to fix it?

If there are screws or bolts holding the blades together, check these are tight, but not tight enough that the blades can't move relative to each other. If the teeth aren't sharp, you can buy a small flat file to sharpen them. This is a tedious process and both cutting edges of each tooth need to be sharpened.

My Ryobi petrol RCS 3540c chainsaw, smokes badly and won't cut into the wood, it just slides off the top most of the time.

Check that the chain is on the right way around. The cutting edge of the teeth on the chain, at the bottom of the bar should face towards you and away from you on the top. It's most likely that the chain is facing the wrong way. If you don't know how to fit a chain look at the video on http://www.ehow.co.uk/video_4419336_replace-chainsaw-chain.htm

If that's not the problem then the chain is blunt and needs to be sharpened badly. You can sharpen it, with a special file which can be got from chainsaw dealers, or take it to a garden tool hire centre and have it sharpened professionally. It has to be sharpened professionally from time to time anyway to keep it cutting straight so if it's that blunt I'd recommend you get done professionally now.

The smoke if it's coming from the chain is caused by overheating from trying to cut with the chain which is too blunt or turned the wrong way. If the smoke is coming from the engine check your fuel. You should have petrol mixed with 2 stroke oil. The saw manual will give the ratio of 2 stroke oil to petrol. If you use too much oil or if it's not 2 stroke it will cause smoke from the engine. Also if you use cheap oil it can cause smoke. It's best to use good quality oil like husqvarna or stihl 2 stroke. These also protect the saw better than the cheap brands you get at car service stations which are really only meant for boats which are water cooled.

Hi, my 16" Ryobi seems to have suddenly gone

When you are cutting you want to keep the chain out of the dirt...dirt will dull a chain so fast it will make your head spin. sound like you need to have the chain sharpened..there are mini grinders available for about 20 bucks that will allow you to sharpen your own chain...if you don't want to go that route then you can take the chain to your local hardware store or possibly a tree cutting service to get it sharpened

Hi, used a blade sharpener for my a2 horse clipper blades and they are still blunt. Do i sharpen between the teeth

no . The blades are sharpened by grinding away the base of the wear until the edges between the teeth are sharp. It also necessary for the tension between the cutting blades is correct other wise the cutting teeth ride up over the hair and will not cut. Have a person who does sharpening of knives ,scissors and blades sharpen the clippers for you as the machine will get it right.

Ryobi rht266oda 26cc petrol hedge trimmer. runs well blades move but will not cut very well, only got last year and went well, nut and boult came loose this year first time out was mended but will not cut,...

You may need to take it to a professional to sharpen. It may have some trash in between the blades keeping it from not cutting. Plus when you use it try spraying some WD40 on the blades to help them move and cut.
