Clarify: #Error appearing immediately with sudden ****? or while carriage parking in serve station area?# remove & take out service station, place it out side(to avoid capping/wiping by cleaners)..check
# check carriage bushing warn out condition( too much play of carriage causes this error)
# trailing cable flexibility good? or its obstructing the carriage path?
# take out cutter assembly from rail.. check..
# Check carriage belt tension, adjust if required.
# Check carriage belt properly installed? re-install again
Best of luck....

How can I replace the belt for the ink carriage

Here is an HP Support Forum where a user has posted a detailed procedure for the belt replacement.

http://forums11.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/bizsupport/questionanswer.do?threadId=846691

The Service Manual is needed. It's available at:
http://www.hylink.com/PrinterManual.html
Designjet 430, 450, 455C - Service Manual
DesignJet 430, 450C, 455CA - Quick Reference Service Manual

As mentioned, it's a delicate and time consuming operation. I replaced my belt two years ago with little problem. (Be sure to clean the old degraded belt gunk off the drive pully too!)

It's not a job for "Beginners". More like "Intermediate" or "Advanced".

Good Luck!

This is the part I ordered. It was $15
WARNING: THIS IS FOR THE "E-SIZE" MACHINE.
If you have the smaller one, you must research the part number for that.

From the service manual:

2. Remove the Right Rear Cover
3. Remove the Right Hand Cover
4. Remove the Tensioner Assembly
5. Pull out Printhead Cleaner Carriage
6. Slide Carriage Assembly to position shown.
7. Lift up the Carriage Cover and remove ALL the Printheads and close the Carriage Cover.
8. Slide the Carriage along the Printer to the position shown.
9. Push in the 2 retaining clips either side of the Printhead Tube Connector.
10. Pull the Printhead Tube Connector towards you.
11. Push the button to release the Printhead Tubes in the Carriage.
12. Release the retaining clip by pulling it away from the holding brackets.
13. Pull the Printhead Tube Connector up between the two Tube Guides.
14. Slide the Carriage to the left side of the Printer.
15. Unclip and remove the Carriage Cover to access the Trailing Cable in the Carriage.
16. Carefully disconnect the Trailing Cable from the connectors in the Carriage PCA. NOTE Remove Trailing Cable
Ferrites if they fall into the Carriage.
17. Remove the Trailing Cables from the Trailing Cable Holder.
TIP Press the Trailing Cables firmly in the center to release.
18. Slide the Trailing Cable Guide out of the Carriage.
19. Slide the Carriage (including the Belt) to the left and out of the Printer.
20. Remove the Belt from the Carriage by releasing it from the retaining clips underneath the Carriage.

As you can see it looks to be a long process. I have the reinstallation instructions as well. If you still want to carry through with this, let me know and I'll send you the service manual....it will be easier than posting the text and the pictures that go along with each step.

Thanks and please take a moment to rate this solution as fixya.

I wrote in about this problem earlier and have found the solution to my problem. There is not notes in the manual nor are there any cautions in any instructions for this procedure and of course HP was as useless as they always are. In my care I found that when you remove the carriage to replace the belt that when you remove the shims for the slider rod on the left and right side of the carriage that it is very important not to mix up which one was the Left and witch was the right. Of course the shims can only be inserted one way but will fit either side. if you look at them one half is fatter then the other so if you reverse them then the carriage is loose so it slightly shifts when the carriage goes from right to left making it impossible for the line sensor to read the marks properly. To fix the problem there is no disassemble required just move the carriage to the center and remove the screws that hold them then slide them out and swop sides put the screws back.
