Good day,
The problems that occur on R12 systems are no different than the newer R134A units. If it involves using R12 it would be a little more expensive, but since they use approx. 6 to 8 ounces it really isn't that bad.

There should be a tag on the compressor, but how are you going to check the charge without gauges and a licence to use R12 refrigerant?

Frigidare chest freezer model cf-8h-L compressor is running but not getting cold on the inside

Recycle it. It is on R12 which we haven't used for 20 years. If the compressor has gone, or if you have lost all the gas, it is beyond economic repair.

Can 134a refrigerant be put into a R12 a/c system?

no --it cannot. R12 gas operates at a far lower pressure that r134a so if you want to use r134a gas you will have to replace compressor ,evaporator and condenser and have a cooling fan for the condenser fitted

Ac problem at idle after converting over to 134a from r12

to convert from r12 to r 134 a the entire system has to be changed
that is condensor, compressor, evaporator, hoses ,the lot because r134a runs at much higher pressures than r12 ( nearly 3 times higher in psi)
it needs different gauges and has different fill connections so that the gasses cannot be mixed
to make it worse the oil used in the compressor is different because of the different gas and is not compatible with the r12
there was nothing wrong with r12 gas but companies and customers were "hoodwinked" into believing that the r12 was bad for the atmosphere and r134a was the answer
just as you have been " hoodwinked" by the person into getting a gas change over without being fully informed of what was involved and why
with r134a gas there has to be a fan in front of the condenser that works immediately the ac is switched on as the temp of the gas being converted back to liquid is much higher because of the higher pressure need to convert it back from gas to liquid
without that fan the system starts to circulate gas and so the evaporation of the liquid at the evaporator in the car is lost and no heat from the car is transferred back outside
what it means is this --- if you can get r12 gas , change the compressor back to an r12 compressor, have the system completely flushed, vacuumed down for at least 1/2 hour and then refill with r12
If on the other hand you have to use r134a because that is the only compatible compressor available then the evaporator , hoses and condenser have to be changed as well and that means a new ac kit basically
find yourself an accredited ac specialist shops and get quotes

Convert r-12 to r134a

if the compressor is r12 and want to use it with 134a you need to change the oil in the compressor before you do the change, and while you change if make sure that he 1st 50oz of gas you charge it with the compressor off. its recommended r12 because it works better at high temperature.

1976 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS WITH AUTO CLIMATIC CONTROL. POWER GOING TO COMPRESSOR, 2 WIRE COMING OUT (GROUND) WHERE THEY GO. A/C NOT WORKING, GROUND OUT WIRES @ COMPRESSOR & WORKS. CONTROL UNDER DASH...

i think you may need some gas thats all ,now if this is a 1976 then its using R12 gas which is now not available for sale anymore so a R134 conversion kit needs to obtained and regassed by a professional with a machine,But be warned the R134 gas has different properties to the old R12 gas and as such will not be as cold as the original gas but the system will work and should drop to around 15c compared to 7c with the older gas

1989 Lincoln Towncar, Compressor Clutch will not engage

Make sure there is sufficient gas.

If there is gas in the system but it is not full enough the pressure switch will detect this and prevent the pump from engaging to prevent damage to the compressor.

Need a replacement compressor < 8 " high for older refrigerator

How can you have a R134a Compressor that is 32 years old. That gas was not even available then. What you are asking is impossible, unless you are asking can you change from possibly R12 to R143a. The answer is yes but it would probably be too costly. you see R12 ran with mineral oil whereas R134a runs with Polyolester oil. the system would have to be completely flushed out of old oil, and the expansion device ( capilliary tube ), would have to be changed and cut to the correct length to appropriate the correct displacement of gas.

My ac wont work

Must be Air-Condition System Lines/ Hoses leaking R12 Freon (gas).

MAYBE THE PULLY HUB BEARINGS FAILED OR
DUE TO VERY LOW R12 FREON (GAS ) will not work.
Because there is a switch in the receiver/dryer prevent AC from working when low R12 Freon present, to protect the system & compressor damages.

You must fix the leaks, before recharging it.

They must **** the old (residue) gases from the system & lines / hoses...... & stay in the vacuum pump 30 minutes to proof no more leaks.

Recharge some oil for the old type R12 Freon gas.

Before recharge it to 62-67 psi R12 Freon

How do I add freon to the A/C on my 1993 Subaru Impreza ?

Hi DO NOT BYPASS the tryrister switch!!!!!!!!!.

You can safely add R12 (freon) from a can with the system not running ,when you have enough gas and oil mix added to the system the compressor will stsart automatically the problem you have is not knowing if there is a leak in the system,as you need to check this as venting R12 to the atmosphere can land you in prison if caught !!!!,.The best advice I can give you is take the car to an Air-con specialist and he will carry out all the checks on the system for you and re-gas the system properly.
