Question about Kenmore Dryers

80 Series- dryer was running fine, until I cleaned out the lint drawer and lint vent. Now it won't turn on. Checked the breaker-set, plug is in, light inside is on.

Dryer keeps saying check filter - lint screen is clean-dryer won't run

Had the same problem. Filter was clean. Vacuumed out the area under the filter. Still had problem. Unplugged the dryer. Removed the hose vent (back of dryer) and checked the exhaust -- all clean. Plugged the dryer back in and was fine. Still going to check the vent to the outside for lint buildup.

I have a kenmore dryer 80 series it only makes a lite sound when I push the start button. I won't come on. The power is good.

The Kenmore 80 Series of dryers are consumer grade dryers for home use. As with most home appliances, the Kenmore 80 series dryers will occasionally not work as intended. If a problem occurs with your dryer, however, you do not necessarily need it serviced by a technician. You can attempt to troubleshoot and fix any problems with your dryer before contacting a technician.

  1. Kenmore 80 Series dryers may not run for several reasons. First, make sure that the power cord is plugged into a working power outlet. You may need to plug a different device into the outlet to check that it is receiving power. If the second device does not run on the power outlet, you may have blown a fuse or tripped a circuit breaker. Check your fuse box or circuit breaker box and make the change as needed.
Next, make sure that the dryer door is fully shut. The dryer will not run with the door ajar.
Finally, check that the "Start" button was fully pressed and that a cycle was chosen on the machine. If you do not choose a cycle for the dryer, it will not run.
  2. If your Kenmore 80 Series dryer does not heat up during use, check that a heat cycle has been chosen for the load. There are several different dryer cycles you can choose, some of which do not use heat. Make sure that you have chosen a heated cycle.
As above, check that you have not blown a fuse or tripped a circuit breaker. The dryer may use more than one fuse or breaker: one is used to power the drum, and the other for the heating element. Make sure that both fuses or breakers are in working order.
  3. There may be times when Kenmore Series 80 dryers do not fully dry your clothes. When this occurs, check the lint screen and clear out any lint. The air may not flow as well if the lint screen is clogged.
Next, check to see if the exhaust vent is clogged. Lint and other particles may clog the exhaust vent over time, restricting air flow and making it more difficult to dry your clothes. To check the vent, run the dryer and hold your hand under the vent. If you do not feel any air flow, clean or replace the vent.
If you used cold water to rinse the clothes it may take longer than normal to dry. The same is true if the load of laundry is very wet or is filled with items that are very absorbent.
Finally, check the load size. The more clothes in the load the longer it will take to dry. If you want to reduce drying time, separate the clothes into piles of light and heavy items and dry them separately.

We just finished a load in the dryer and it worked fine. When we went to start another load it wouldn't start. The circuit works, it is plugged in, and the door is shut

Are your lint traps clean? Also, your vent hose going out the back of the dryer sometimes gets clogged up, and this will shut down your dryer until it is cleaned out. Try this, and if it still doesn't work - try shutting the dryer's circuit breaker off (or if its easier to unplug the dryer), and then back on again. This will reset the breaker, and then you can try running your dryer again. In fact, you can do the circuit breaker step first. If this doesn't work, then clean the lint trap, vent, etc. - and then return to the circuit breaker step. I hope this works for you. If not, let me know. I'll check back with you in a little bit. Good Luck!  Jim

I have an kenmore 80 series dryer and it stoped all of a sudden. I cleaned out the duct system, when I press the start button no sound.

If the belt has broken the belt safety switch will shut the dryer down and it will not start.

You can verify easily if you have a broken belt by manually trying to move the drum. If the drum turns and the motor does not move then either the belt is really worn or has broken which would activate the belt safety switch.

You did not mention if you checked the circuit breakers for the dryer so that is on the to do list also.

Additionally if the dryer got too hot there is a one time fail thermistor that will have to be replaced before the dryer will operate again.

Thermistors fail due to clogged airflow in following areas:

the vent ducting,

the lint filter,

air passages around the lint filter

or the outside thru the wall vent flapper assy.

Thanks for using FixYa.

My kenmore 80 series dryer won't heat but everything else works fine I cleaned the vent duct of all lint [ there was alot ] and checked the electrical conections

Had similiar problem once and it turned out to be one leg of the 240 volt
supply was dead. The drum motor only needs one leg (120V) to run, but the Heating elements require both legs (240v). Make sure you have 240V at the recep.

Dd you try to unscrew the larger lint trap underneath the lint cup collector. My serivce person showed me how to do this and after a year I cleaned it out and was surprised how much lint was caught in there. My dryer was not heating and drying quickly, this helped the problem.
