If you overcharged the unit to the point it stalled, it is possible there is damage to the valves in the compressor. 2 to 3 lbs is nominal and should work, but you need to know the head pressure. Bad valves Will give you a low head pressure.
As well, cause of compressor failure in a R134A system is critical.
Many have had an issue with the internal walls of the condensor carboning up, thus providing inadequate heat transfer.
In those cases, replacing the condenser, dryer and compressor as a package are mandatory.
