All WhisperKOOL units come with a 2 year parts and labor warranty with a 5 year warranty on the compressor. During the warranty period, if the unit fails a replacement unit is sent at no cost to you. If your unit fails after this period we offer a Consumer Care Program to give the customer a chance to get a new unit at a deep discount. In many cases, the failing unit has been misapplied and the correct unit for the installation is sought after during the replacement process. Our customer service department is trained extensively, with live customer service representation with a streamlined process for not only helping with the products, but also assisting in identifying any limitations to the installation or ventilation of the cooling unit.
If a repairing the unit is the decided route, call WhisperKOOL directly at 1-800-343-9463 and parts can be ordered depending on availability. A knowledgeable HVAC Professional should perform any repairs due to the refrigeration system.

SOURCE: Whisperkool 4200 icing up
Misery loves company, so I'm posting this even if it isn't in time to help you.
I had an XLT 8000 with similar problems. Vinotheque wanted to do the exchange program ($2,500+), and I was told the older aluminum coils might have leaked, and the exchange models come w/ SS coils. I was near to biting on that, when I decided to have a local refrigeration shop check it out.
Here's what they found--A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. It seems there are small copper capillary tubes that circulate the refrigerant. If they touch each other, with normal operating vibration they can wear holes in each other and the refrigerant can leak out. The leak can be very slow. According to the guy who fixed it (all for $219, and much of that was for drilling out the riveted-closed enclosure), "crossed cap tubes" is a Bush League mistake, akin to not putting oil in your car's crankcase.
I'm not saying WhisperKOOL/Vinotheque did this on purpose, knowing there would be an eventual failure and an opportunity to make another sale. But what the service guy told me was that IF the manufacturer was without scruples, a crossed cap tube would be the perfect way to take advantage of an unsuspecting customer.
My fix? Drill out the rivets, and find a local qualified service tech. Fixed in hours for $219 or in weeks with an exchange for $2,500... You choose.

possibly the compressor is running harder due to either being low on freon or the condensor coils are dirty not letting the heat to be released causing the the compressor itself to overheat.
