Question about Computers & Internet

Microphone issue Computer: Intet Core2 CPU 6600 @ 2.40 GHz. 4 GB ram with Sigmatel Audio (on board) When pluggin in Mikd Audio Control pane comes up and I activate Microphone on Rear Panel - works fine. Then I go to Microsoft SDK 5.1 to train the speech engine - microphone switches off. I have to reset it manually but it switches off every time I start training. Have removed and reinstalled both SDK and Sigmatel audio software.

    Ok thanks, here goes.

Firstly I only have three sockets on the on board card, no front panel (which SigmaTel caters for.) Mike is in pink, headphones in green. When I plug these in the SigmaTel prompts me to configure the mike. On pink slot I select Mic. Looking at the Recording Control in the Levels tab I can see the Rear Mic is now selected.

At this point I can hear all microphone input in my headphones (which I don't particularly want, but anyway it works). I can now go on and use the micorphone with skype and flightsim etc.

Next, I go to Speech icon in control panel (by the way, I run XP SP 3). At this point the Microphone Level bar picks up voice input. The minute I start training the mic dies - the SimaTel Control Panel now shows the Recording Control as Microphone and not Rear Mic anymore. At this point I have re-configure the Jack Setup to get the mic to work again. Going back to SKD 5.1 switches it off again etc.

So the setting jumps between Rear Mic and Microphone

On the Advanced tab of Sigmatel Panel I have Pop-ups enabled.

Thanks - I will kiss your feet if you can solve this
As mentioned, I only have three sockets - blue reads Center/LFE Speaker

    thanks for your help
This is a custom built machine and I am trying to find the chip details
To answer your question, yes, I can change back to the input that works with immediate effect. However, taking the focus off the SDK window pauses the training. Once I have re-enabled the rear microphone (the one which works) and I click on Resume in SDK, the microphone is disabled again. So it is a vicious circle

Well let me just start off with the basics here then from there we can go about helping you fix your problem. When it changes the microphone input, what input does it automatically select on the recording panel? Cause it has a default input it selects when you goto train. So say for instance if you have your microphone plugged into line input and in the recording control panel in windows it switches to microphone. Then you would need to plug it in that jack. Or vice versa. This happens to me all the time when i use torque game engine and use the voice to code console. Also are you trying to get it to playback live where you can hear through the speakers what is said through the mic. Or are you just trying to train the speech engine period. Cause i really need to know what input is being changed when you hit record and what its being changed to.
If you can help me by answering this questions we can go from there and i will be glad to assist you further. Thanks, Midwest-tek

when microphone is selected are you able to figure out which input that may be? cause i think microphone should be the rear green input.

Now is it a custom computer or is it a prebuilt pc such as a dell or a hp. An is the driver you have installed is that a driver straight from sigmatel or is it the driver that is issued by the computer manufacturer. Cause seems alot of people have this problem with sigmatels and they fix it by using the manufacturer sigmatel driver over the company driver. But it its a custom built pc with say a biostar or asus mobo that shouldnt be the case. Now my question is for you when you train the speech engine if you have the device window open can you select back to the microphone input that works. Like when it changes it to microphone select it to the rear microphone or whatever it is listed as. Or does the microphone even though the proper input is selected just stop being recognized?

So it was the drivers and i told you it was most likely the drivers and you passed on my solution? i guess i dont understand why that is.

Hello, I am going to help you the best that I can but at this time I do not know exactly which Machine you are on, or the Motherboard ID # if nothing else..

Check to see what is your default recording device. Make sure that the MIDI device is selected. This can be done through control panel->Sounds->Properties. If you cannot find it there then please tell me what your OS is so that I can give you instructions specific to your OS.

You are using the default driver provided by Microsoft. You need to install the latest audio driver made by intel to solve this problem. Can I have the model no of your chipset?

I dont know where the model number on my computer is

I have to assume the sound is derived from the mother board. We'll need the Manufacturer of the motherboard (not the chips) i.e. Intel, Assus etc. and the model # which should be printed very close to the manufacturers name.

Unable to install updates

First, do you know how to access the Event Viewer? Control Panel's "Administrative Tools" If so, are there any errors listed under WindowsUpdateClient? Anything under Bits-Client?

Also, you did Activate your Operating System, correct? Some updates will not install if the system is not activated..
