Question about Refrigerators

2 Answers

Hello, I have a GE Profile side by side refrigerator (about 3 years old) that developed a water leak that looks like it runs down the water line that connects up at the actual dispenser (through the freezer door). I had a GE tech come out and he told my wife that the whole door would need to be replaced! 700 dollars! have you ever heard of such a thing??? Dean DeArment

I've looked at all the posts and can find anything that is close to my problem. The water line INSIDE the freezer door is either cracked or loose within the door itself. The repair man says I need to buy a new freezer door to fix a 10 dollar line!

Here is GE's site...enter your model number, and you will find help:
http://www.geappliances.com/service_and_support/repair/refrigerator-freezer-icemaker.htm
Here is what GE says about this problem:
http://www.geappliances.com/search/fast/infobase/10000283.htm
I would contact the support people- replacing a door, I agree, is a bit overkill.
I read on another site that some repairman wanted to replace the whole door, then I ran across this site that explains how to check your lines in the door:
http://www.applianceaid.com/gethroughdoor.html
Hope this helps you, and thanks for using FixYa.

My 1 year old ge profile refrigerator has a serious leak problem from the refrigerator water filer. What should I do?

Check where the leak came from in the water filler, probably a pin hole will cause that. If you already located the leak then apply a small amount solvent or epoxy into it. You can buy solvent or epoxy from
hardware store. Look for a brand that is not harmful to human and especially use for water leaks.
You can do it so good luck.

The drain is clogged. Remove the bottom bin out of the freezer. Once done you should see a trough at the back. This trough will be filled with ice, remvoe the ice. Then you have to clear the drain. The best way I know of to do this is to force hot water down the drain with a turkey baser untill water flows freely. Then mix baken soda with water and pour it down the drain. http://www.appliance-repair-it.com/refrigerator-leaking.html

GE Side By Side Ice Machine & Water dispenser not getting water

you may have a pin hole in your water line to your dispenser or you could be leaking at the water valve itself on the water dispenser side. you'll have to pull the refrigerator out from the wall and look where the main water line goes into the back of the refrigerator. you will probably have to take the back off to see. be sure you put the back of the refrigerator back when you are through.

We had this problem on our own fridge at home. it turned out the plastic lines which feed these appliances liable to fill up with lime and calcium which will restrict water flow. take a look at getting a new line.

something else to look at. is the tube getting kinked when you push the fridge into postion?

let me know if this helps. davcol47@hotmail.com

Water leak from under fridge when water dispenser is used

The water line is broken somewhere from the water dispencer all the way down to the water valve. I usually find that it is broken next to the water valve. Hint: Water valve is blue and located behind the fridge in the compressor department. Water line is 1/4inch clear tube that is probaly now a "yellowish" color. Easy to spot, easy to fix, especially if located next to water valve...

Leaky Refrigerator

remove the whole back cover at the bottom and check all the nylon lines. they get britle and crack from the heat that the compresor and condesor make. chack that and get back to me. I may be able to send a parts break down / explosion if I can get the model number.

Ge profile side By side ice maker water leak

This sounds like the float mechanism has gone bad. Remove it and have a look. It may be the float or the switch on it that is bad. There is also a solenoid valve. Parts kits are available. Shut off the water first!
